Hello! I'm thinking of transferring to SU (Mass Comm) next school year. Gusto ko lang malaman kumusta naman ang buhay studyante diyan lalo na sa mga nagdodorm or apartment lang kasi I'm not from Dumaguete. Gusto ko lang maging familiar sa place and lifestyle ng mga tao diyan. Please share any stories, descriptions, tips, travel infos etc. that you think will help me have a better idea of your school and course. Thanks!

There is a reason why Dumaguete is called the university town--it's student-friendly. It's got a pretty laid-back atmosphere and I'm sure you won't have a problem adjusting here. Inside the Silliman campus, there's a lot of dorms you can choose from. Since you will be new here, I suggest you stay at a dorm for the first semester, just to get the feel of things. You can stay on if you like, but if you find that you want more freedom, you can move on to an apartment outside. That's what a lot of students do.

Silliman students are generally free to do anything they want, as long as it's not illegal of course. People say that you'll recognize a Sillimanian because he/she would be wearing flip flops. Not all wear flip flops, but you really can wear them to school, as almost all departments do not have a dress code. That liberty to be whatever you want to be here should tell you a lot about the environment.

I do not have a lot of details about the MassCom course so you can probably check the Silliman website for that. But I do know the MassCom dean personally, and there is only one thing I can say: she is a truly amazing person and educator!

I know a lot of people from different places who have come to Dumaguete to study at Silliman and who are still in love with the place long after they left it. So I don't think you have to worry. You'll do great here.

confusedjos: MassCom @ Silliman is really great! You will not regret transferring here...

When it comes to student life, it's really awesome...Quite relaxed and for me, it spells F-U-N...Not to mention the great facilities such as the airconditioned library, etc.
