Well, enjoying a peaceful Sunday morning along the Boulevard until the Delta boat left it's dock. It's shocking this is allowed to continue...the damage this does to the environment and pollution caused is an outrage. Very very sad nothing has been done about this

My 300mm zoom lens could have followed the trail of black soot the weesam boat left across the coastline as it made it all the way to Siquijor.

While on that topic...let's all do our part to educate people throwing trash as well. I been doing my part. I love the gorgeous waters here in Negros and would like to keep them gorgeous. Some individuals have been known to dump trash in them - I do my part by quickly bringing it to their attention. Recently, 2 massive dumps (i'm presuming by shipping containers) of trash have left waters from Dauin to dumaguete with trash floating on top of them.

Anyone know who polices this and what, if anything, is being done?? Not a good way to preserve what most of us here have come to love; our oceans.

Seen it many times and agree whole heartedly. I have spoken to the ENRO guys in town about all the daily burning of trash and leaf debris in residential areas...took a lot of follow up just to get one neighbor to stop. An ongoing problem particularly with such a high population density increase.

Needs international attention, anybody know how to go about that?

    Cough cough

I guess first up we should be honest and tell anyone thinking of moving here with family members who have bronchial or asthma complains to think twice about it.

But I would think every city in the Philippines is just as bad - I can't remember much burning off in Cebu though.

It comes down to education and I don't think City Hall are interested in that.

Someone should teach composting. Rain forest soil is notoriously poor and basically they are not just polluting but also depriving the soil of nutrition.

I guess being visitors here we just have to grin and bear it. I think tragedy is the word.

"Green" and composting is taught in schools in the Philippines, but hardly anyone does it, just like the U.S.

Air pollution seems worse in the larger cities, and less of a problem in the more rural areas. They still burn trash, and sugar cane residue, but I think the main culprit is traffic! Carabaos, goats, cows, pigs, and chickens don't seem to be the problem except for the occasional methane emission! :D

    Hi ya
The smoke from the ferry is an indication of the condition of the Diesel engines that run the vessel.
It’s easily fixed but cost money for parts, labor. The strange thing is the all the black smoke is a lot money being wasted.

Nothing strange about it at all. It still runs, therefore don't fix it!
