⌛ Hotel/Resort with swimming pool in Dumaguete

Hi to everyone!

We are visiting Dumaguete every year on our way to Siquijor Island. Usually we stay in simple Hotels in the Centre.

But now our daughter is almost three years old and she loves to move around.
And... she loves swimming pools. I know, there ist the "big one", but thats the one we will use later when we are at Siquijor ;-)

What we are searching for is a hotel or resort as near to Dumaguete city as possible. It must have a swimming pool. It should not be too expensive. Let's say not more than 2.000 PHP a night. Dauin would be already too far from the centre.

All I know is the Sta. Monica Beach Resort in Banilad. But I have never seen it. Can anybody tell me if the resort is ok? Is it very crowded?

Is there any other place you can recommend? Must not be a beach resort. Is there any other nice place in Dumaguete with pool? Would also be ok, when we have to take a trike up to 15 minutes travel.

I would be more than happy, if anybody could help me.

Santa Monica is quite OK and not at all crowded.

Also, closer to town is South Seas resort...never been in the rooms, but just a few minutes from downtown, on the sea and has a swimming pool.

 

STA Monica is OK as long you don't need any kind of maintenance or eat there (sorry Pat'O was there again after your post and you are right... the fish are on ice and looking at there gills, they are on ice since a few weeks... )

in Duma i would recommend Florentina Homes but probably above your budget.

the rooms in south sea and sta.monice are something i just would not book any of my friends and rather spent 15 $ more to know they are taken care of.

Than again, for your budget, the 2 are the only option close to Dumaguete and knowing most places in Siquijor both places would be in the upper third of accommodations there.

Dumaguete Springs is south of Bacong, not that much difference to Dauin anymore. Nice big pool.

really close to Dumaguete is only Sta. Monica, Florentina homes, southsea. There are also a few smaller places in Sibulan close to the airport that might be in your 15 minute range to Dumaguete downtown.

 

Sta. Monica is ok for a few days, so is South Sea. Sta. Monica is many times used for anykind of celebrations and you can have disco-sound and 200 guests partying without warning from the mangement in advanced. Happened to us last week. :(

Sorry, now I found the rates of Dumaguete Springs aswell at their website. I've seen the youtube-video. Looks not bad.

Yeah, that's nice. You want to try to get some relaxing atmosphere and then.....200 PEOPLE entering the resort: PARTY, PAMELA, SPAGHETTI, ANDOALLTHEOTHERSTUFF......Oh my gosh. There's only one solution: Join the party or leave the resort, right?!

That's one of the reasons why I don't like to stay in bigger resorts for a longer time. You'll never know what happens next. I'm happy with my small and almost private place in Siquijor.

I really wonder why there's not even one hotel with pool in the city centre of Dumaguete. It's not that I personally need it. I really prefer the sea. But for my little daughter it's very nice to have. And for my wife (Filipina) aswell.

However, with our without pool, we'll surely enjoy our time in Dumaguete again. Thans for your posts. Whenever you may have a further advise, I would be very thankful.

I was in South Seas 5 years ago. The accomodation we had was very nice, but I cant remember the class and price of that room we booked.
The big negative thing was the party that evening. A wedding party.
Nice for them maybe but not for a walk in customer :D
O yeah, another thing .......... I could not order a cool beer at 11:00 PM

 

We have been in Dumaguette since 1993 many times. We think the good places to stay are South sea resort and Dumaguette springs resort. At these places you can enjoy the philippines without getting ripped off. The people here are friendly and helpfull and the food is good.

The places that we do not recomment are sta Monica and El Dorado. We had bad experience there. Also the food at these 2 places is not always good.

 

Florentina vs. Southsea's

Which would you recommend better for a young family Florentina or Southseas? Two young children ages 3 and 5.

We have usually stayed at Sta Monica but due to the construction on hwy we won't be staying there this time.

More concerned about cleanliness. I have read some reviews on trip advisor and they are not flattering for Southseas.

We travel to Valencia each day so neither of these appear to be located in as good a location as Sta Monica.

Food is not such a concern - just a good breakfast to start day as we are in Valencia most of the day with relatives.

Is Florentina in a safe neighborhood - I understand they have a compound to park a vehicle - is that true?
