Dear JimB,
What in case a couple has a busy life and need to go quite often from home/house ?
Believe me ......such situations occur.... a tleast I know a few.
For us she is wonderfull (also a relative !) and is for us already valuable for only having someone home when we have to leave our house.
You can reply "....but YOU are an older person, so OK".
But for me it does not matter at all in our situation if I was much yonger. The same need.
It makes our lives much completer and relaxter AND we indeed help someone to earn money AND she likes it VERY much to stay here with us AND indeed it IS cheap here AND we have more workers AND ....
A lot of reasons possible which you maybe can't immagine
Even IF it was for someones STATUS ......so what, as long they pay her well ?
That means imho also that SHE is happy with her work AND salary !!!
Don't think YOUR situation or the one of your neighbour are representative for all here.

 

TimB, I respect your opinion but certainly do not agree with it. I think your post is short-signed, narrow, and critical of people who choose to live a life style different than yours.Generally speaking, will not go into my personal situation, a maid can:
1. Watch the house if you and the wife are out
2. Watch the dog and pick up if you and the wife are out
3. Help clean a 300 sq mtr 4 bdr house
4. Help with the cooking and dishes
5. Provide the wife with a person to chat with in their own language
6. Help with the shopping
7. Many many other benefits I'm sure others could mention.
