My wife was at Bethel yesterday trying to email me some videos online with their wifi, and it's WAY too slow. Are there any good spots in town for great wifi where you can plug your computer in rather than run on battery?

What about icafes, are they set up to let you use your own computer, maybe with an Ethernet cable? I'm concerned about her plugging her flashdrive into an icafe computer and getting a virus.

    Thanks

I'd bet Silliman has a place like that, maybe in their library.

Same experienced I got here..I just migrated here in Dumaguete, I never expected internet connections here are far behind and slow... living in Cebu and Manila I don't have bad complains about internet connections. I guess one of the internet company here mistaken the bits to bytes as I try to correct them since the upload is much higher than the download thing...lol the IT of the company got mad...hihihihi lol!

I have no idea anywhere except here, but in Cagayan De Oro, McDonalds has a very fast and free Wi-Fi. So do several of the restaurants and coffee shops. My choice is called Bo's Coffee (might be others in other cities), very fast free Wi-fi AND a great American style breakfast with "brewed by the cup" coffee that is as good as Starbucks (190 pesos). See if there is one in your city. In Bo's, like in most Starbucks in the US, you can plug in your laptop to wall outlets if you want.

And as far as local Internet cafes are concerned, I would NEVER connect my laptop to their system. Asking for trouble.

It was already said above, but there are programs available that can retreve a lot of data off of your laptop without you knowing it, including screenshots and there are many "keystroke" programs that record eveyone keystroke that you make. Using a cafe server is an all around bad idea. And that is not to even mention the possibility of getting a virus and spyware loaded on your laptop. It only takes a minute to do damage that could take weeks to resolve.

Bo's Coffee in the back of Robinson's has hifi, I think 15p per hr. Never used it but I see folks on their laptops including foreigners
