when i was looking for something to rent i ran into the billboard at the why not. Happily i looked through the advertisements but couldnt find any contact information , only to inquire inside

what's this crap?

Might seem a Silly Question BUT Did you enquire inside? maybe they did not want just anyone enquiring about renting, Sought of a little checking out maybe, I can understand the frustration but if I was that interested I think I might have gone in and asked.

That is the WhyNot's way of making sure they get a commission on anything sold on the board.

This is quite normal practice in real estate world, this is business after all.
In the case of Why Not it is double business, the one who advertise has to pay for it and ones they find a buyer/renter there is a second payment (as on contract)

 

sorry for the following comparison (here we go again )

there are free advertisements with the telephone numbers of the advertiser on a billboard at the entrance of an expat supermarket in northern thailand

no commision, just plain and straight

and i thought thailand was more money driven......haha........so wrong

got a slight feeling some fellow expats are trying to get money out of me too

 

Why-Nots bulletin board used to be free information for the expats and others that give Why-not their business.

 

some of those ads have been there a very very long time......

It just gets you in back so they can discuss options with you

 

the board is including in the rent of the travel office thats why its glassed in. They do get a commission from the seller. Pure and simple business! Whats wrong with that?

Ive been into Why Not over 4 times now trying to advertise but no one is ever there that can help. Must be the Philippines as ive written to DI 3 times about advertising and no reply. Fustrating, i was on the board of directors for an international agency selling ad space. Here it seems people dont want your business

 

True that! Most are extremely poor at marketing also! They think that customers will just automatically show up and throw money at their feet without them doing anything!
