With sincere apologies to those who want to protect all of God's creatures, I need to protect my puppy. I have a couple families of frogs totaling about 60 living in both my back yard and my front yard. They come out just before dark to eat and poop. My problem is I have a small puppy now that has business to do outside. If a dog licks the back of a frog, they get very ill, it happened to me in Makati and almost killed an older Yorkie I had. Some of the frogs here are very large bull frogs like the snake latched onto. Has anyone had experience how to get rid of the frogs, my dog has yard priority? I read on the internet just now that a spray made from caffeine has been effective in Hawaii. If there are frog leg lovers here, I can contribute to a large meal. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Frog jokes unnecessary. Thanks

    Get the snake back! :D

Get things out of balance and there is hell to pay. Get rid of snakes = too many frogs. Get rid of frogs = too many bugs.

Train the dog not to lick frogs! It can be done! No different then teaching a dog to avoid snakes! They have snake avoidance training for hunting dogs in the U.S. as an example.

KdF, I figured that would be the first response. The problem with that solution is the frogs probably ate the remains of the snake that got bashed and separated from the part that went over the fence, and are probably larger and more poisonous now and big enough to eat my puppy. I like the frog legs addicts coming over and their plastic bags. I never ate frogs legs but I heard it tastes like chicken, but I heard that about a lot of things:D

Pat, frogs are great for keeping down bugs, so I think the answer may be to get the frogs to move on rather than kill them. I don't know if caffeine will work, but try any or all of the following homespun methods without resorting to heavy industrial chemicals.

    1. Spray the frogs with warm (not boiling) water. Frogs are cold blooded and the warm water shocks their nervous system, but not enough to kill them. If you do it often enough to make them feel unwelcome, they might look for another home.

    2. Wash the area with a salt water solution and let it dry so that the salt crystals remain. The salt won't harm your dog. Salt is an irritant to frogs feet which are delicate. As a colony, they will get the message to avoid that area, and may decide to move on.

    3. Wash the complete area with a mild water/bleach solution. Keep the dog off the area until the solution has dried. Bleach disorientates their senses so they will regard the area as a threat and may move on. Take caution. A strong water/bleach solution will kill them, but a mild solution will just screw them up for a while.

No guarantees of course, but they are all worth trying.

    Good luck.
