visiting the lottery selling shop last nite
some local bought some tickets and blasted away on his wave with open pipe and.........no lights at all

probably saving some centavos by not turning on his headlight bulb

    or

    is stupidity redefined here ?

    anybody got similar stories??

P.S. for the political correct sensitive kind of people with long toes i suggest you replace stupidity by "lack of education"

If it makes you feeling better I don't know but so far my experience with all my friends, ralatives, whatsoever ........
    THEY ALL HAVE SIMILAR STORIES.
Not that we get used to it, but that's what is common practise here.
See some other threads as well on this matter.
The ones doing it will not agree with it and will likely still call it cleverness :D

No lights at night. Failure to stop before entering a major arterial. Passing on BOTH sides.
Passing when there is absolutely no place in front of you to reenter the flow of traffic. No turn signals. No license. No insurance. As many as 8 people on a little 100cc bike at one time. No helmets. Defective equipment. Hey, life goes on!! Or not. It's totally crazy out there. If I can possibly avoid driving at night, I do. It's too dang dangerous.

    Right.
The yearly smoketest (joke) is only for the Philippines to avail of green certificates or whatever they call it in order to sell clean air to the rest of the world.
Lights, brakes and other vital parts of a vehicle that can save lives is of no priority.
Helmet for motorcycles maybe if politics permit. Not to save lives.

Guy.....you are a relative newcomer here but welcome to the club. We did a thread a couple of months ago that I complained after having to drive home after sunset one evening (in the dark) and my complaints about lack of lights, the "one eyed monsters", the un-lit slow moving pedicabs, and the always present chicken, cow, dog, drunk in the roadway.........and let us not forget the broken-down vehicles in the middle of the road after dark.
I use to say "only the strong survive", but here, I'm sure a lot of strong DON'T survive.
If you want a fun passtime, start looking at license plates on motors here. There are expired, expired many years, none at all and the ever present "For Registration" that may be used for years and years.
And, after I got my drivers license (hassle), I said something to my father-in-law and he said that he had been driving a motor for about 10 years without a license. I took him by the hand and went with him to get one. I'm guessing that 50% of the locals that ride a motor do NOT have a license.
In case you have not yet encountered it, the LTO will set up a checkpoint to check drivers for helmet, licenses, etc.......the illegal riders will just sit on the side of the road, within seeing distance of the checkpoint, and wait for the LTO to go to lunch of go home at 4pm........and the LTO see them there......
Welcome to our way of driving..........lololol

and to please expand on Firefly's reply........exactly what is considered a "helmet" here?
I see construction hard hats, construction bump caps, and baseball batting helmets used here as "motorcycle helmets"
