    Greetings Everyone,

I am new here. I found out about this forum from one of the guys on Living In Cebu Forum. I just retired here in La carlota as of October this year. I first came here in 1990 to marry, sight unseen and take my bride back to America. She is from this area, but I am more attracted to the sea. We are renting here in La Carlota but looking around for a more perminant place. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Are there many angloes around here. I know there are a lot on Cebu but I am not too attracted to big city living. what are the tourist spots around here? I am not a drinker but I like to socialize so if there are any get to gethers withing reach I can crash, let me know.
    waiting for a responce.

    Welcome David.... :-)

I'm fairly new here in Dumaguete myself. Only 4 months living here and nearly 5 years living in Pampanga. There's a few places foreigners tend to socialize

    MacDonalds in the morning
Why Not/Le Chalet Restaurant on The Boulevard
    Coco Amigos on the Boulevard
    Sans Rival inside Robinsons Mall

While I do see them enjoying the occasional cup of coffee or swilling beer, I don't see any of them engaged in any other activities like a diving club, cycling team, billiards teams, softball, etc.

Maybe other know about those activities and that would help all of us...

    Cheers,
    Mark

Thanks for quick get back. Like I said, I live in La carlota but am planing on working my way down there to check it out. I am hoping to make some new friends and get together for an informational update to help me decide where to settle.

    Hi David & welcome also,

I'm a big fan of Negros in general because of the friendly nature of most people I've met. I like San Carlos City, it's quaint but it doesn't have much to do and is poorly equipped for foreigners, I particularly like Dumaguete because of a number of qualities that other places are missing. The boulevard along the sea front from Bethel Hotel to the pier is really nice first thing in the morning to catch the early morning air and again in the late afternoon before sundown for a casual (or romantic) stroll or an ice cream & see the kids & others enjoying themselves. The sea is sparkling clean & no bad smells. I just hope the Badjao (a recent blight on the city, imported from northern Mindanao) can be effectively moved on, to safeguard the area for the residents & tourists. The new Robinsons Mall is quite good although it's been slow to attract the big names in. Visitors can hire small motorcycles at reasonable rates. There's plenty of choice for good dentists, doctors and schools. Restaurants & bars are everywhere with live music being quite a regular thing. I have said to friends that the 2 cleanest and best places to live in Philippines are Dumaguete & Davao. I currently live in Davao which is very hard to beat but my fiancee comes from Negros so I'm sure we'll be moving there soon.... We've been visiting Duma a lot lately, spending time with her family & discussing the possibilities.

Thanks for the get back. Good info. I look forward to checking it out, especially the walk along the seashore. How's the swiming? I have been to Davao, or at least the one on Mendenao. It is nice down there but my wife worries too much about the possable trouble. Can't get away on my own. You know us Americans, we like to nose around.

    Hello David,

In dumaguete city itself, the water is filthy and has a bad smell to it. Not a place to swim. But when you get outside the city suck as parts of Bacong and into Dauin going south the water is very nice. There's marine sanctuaries for swimming, diving and snorkeling...

Enjoy your trip and I hope you enjoy it here.
