    New???

 Hi Jimmy, well nice to see you back, Did you forget that you were a member here, Hardly New are my friend, not to worry, I am sure it will all come back to you, I don't have any contacts for you about Housing but I am sure there will be plenty of help and advice if you ask or trawl the threads. Not sure you will find a lot at 4k to 7k though, Still strange things come about. as for your pinay, well! Fingers crossed for you. As you will read most of us, in fact I think I can say all of us are happy and I certainly see no reason why you should not be also, Please take care though.

Hope all goes well for you.

Jack-Thanks for the welcome back/I didnt forget I was a member-just been really busy.Finished a 7 year stint in Korea teaching English and arrived here in Shanghai a few months ago.Now teaching English at a university.Teach mostly mornings to Freshman and Sophomores -about 15 hours a week.I was doing 40 a week in Korea so really like this university position much better. If I dont renew my contract in July 2011 then I will be off to the Philippines.Still trying to find the best place to live with bearable weather.Baguio is nice but dont wanna get blown away by the persistant typhoons there.I am also considering Tagatay but havent been there yet.I will appreciate any and all help/advice as to where to live.Good internet is important for I may teach English online.I will have a modest retirement income..but will need something to do when I get there.I dont wanna sit around and drink San Miguel all the time...Still have some good productive years left in me...Jimmy in Shanghai

Hi Jimmy, you may or not be aware that there are a number of Korean Universities who've set up English courses all over Philippines. I suggest you bring as much contact info as you can with you, as well as your Korean resume. It will be easy for you to pick up clients to teach on a one to one basis here or work for a school at a lower income level. I have friends in other parts who teach English but I'm not permanently in Dumaguete yet & don't have those contacts there. You may find a cheaper place in Valencia but a P7k limit in Duma is tight but not impossible, especially if you're willing to accept something fairly native. I rent out a few houses in Davao and the ones outside the city are only P4k, with one small aircon unit. On the basis that Dumaguete is cheaper than Davao, you may find something in your price bracket but the area will not be foreigner dominated. Sounds like you are a man of the world however, so probably this would be fine for you. Hope to meet you for a beer one day & discuss your travels, I think you have a story or 2 to tell

    Possibly Davao

Andy-I might be interested in the Davao rentals.More along my budget.I will have a modest retirement income so dont wanna spend too much on rent.I am mostly interested in an area where I can get inexspensive good internet and the weather isnt too hot and humid as I know most of Philippines.I liked Baguio cool weather when I was there 5 years ago but dont care for the regular typhoons there.I am also considering Tagatay and Puerto princessa in Palawan.Theres a realitor there that pays 4K a month for her rent so I know cheaper rentals can be found but being a foreigner there is a mark up on goods and services which is totally unfair. I understand from my online research there is a sometimes mosquito problem and malaria in Palawan so dont wanna get involved with that. Also they have electricity problems there in Palawan. Is there a college near your Davao house rentals? Also please contact me on my personal email jlewellen2003@yahoo.com so I can discuss other issues with you Thanks and take care........Jimmy in Shanghai(Do you live in Dumaguete or Davao?)
