Hi Bob & congratulations on your coming baby next April. Our baby is 21 months now. We got ourselves a real good family doctor who was also a specialist Ob-Gynae, my partner was always sick through the pregnancy (worst I've ever seen) and we made sure she got all the vitamins & care she needed at a fraction of the cost abroad. I knew from day one she'd need a caesarian so I prepared her and the doc in advance (by promising to sue her @ss if she cut my honey with the traditional Filipino 'zipper cut'). The cost at the hospital was under P100,000 with a caesarian (proper bikini line cut) and the 3 days stay plus medicines etc & baby's care. I was very pleased with the level of care and the financial outcome too. Please note that all this happened in Angeles City, not Dumaguete.

Don't be concerned about levels of care, they teach medicine in Dumaguete and they've been having kids here for millions of years. I suggest you talk to doctors to find one that will work with you and ensure a good outcome. The prices will be lower but the level of care in Dumaguete is reportedly very good. Bring any ultrasound scans and copies of medical reports etc with you. If you spend more than $3,500 on medical expenses by next April, I would be surprised....

Good luck finding an apartment or house, I'm sure others will (and already have started to) give you good local info to help find the right place.

    Andy

hi Bob. Congrats to your upcoming baby, and a warm welcome to the forum. Question: would be OK for your wife to travel on her 4th month pregnancy? My nurse wife said its still on the FRAGILE stage. Better consult it first to your doctor. We're just concern. Good day!

    Hello sir,

I was also 3 months pregnant when I came back to philippines. It was all ok for me since I was very healthty. I had a CS operation inorder to give birth to my son. But actually I tired to do normal way to give birth but after 20 hours in the room my husband and my doctors decided to do the operation. I was admitted in Silliman Medical center and stayed there for 5 days. I was very happy with my doctors, actually I had two since my original OB can not perform surgery anymore. And my bills was like 120 thousand pesos including all. I would really recommend that you have a helper in the house and a nanny to keep the baby because you wife will still be in pain. I was able to move and do all the things but I was distroyed in the evening. I had a nursing aid from silliman that took care of my son. You can ask the nursing department if you are interested. Or better you have the mother of your wife that can do the thing in behalf of her. This period after pregnacy, your wife can suffer depression which is very normal. So to have somebody that she is very confident with would really be the best in my opinion. And most of all you have to speak with your wife if she want to breast feed your baby or you will sure formula milk. In this way you can prepare all the things that you need for the feeding of your newly born child. If their is anything I can help you sir just feel free to ask. I wish you good luck and blessing to your family. I hope this help you abit.

    Hi Bob.

As a green card holder your wife can stay out of the US for one year, and still return. Since you are unsure of your return date, it may be prudent to file form I-131 application for a re-entry permit BEFORE she leaves. This will allow your wife to stay out of the country for 2 years without jeopardizing her green card status.

Once the baby is born you will have to file for Consulars Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) in order to obtain citizenship for the child. This can take a few months.

You should not have any major problems finding suitable housing. It will likely take some shopping around to find something decent though.

If for what ever reason you have to stay in the US, you might inquire with the social services for coverage of your wife's pregnancy under Medicaid. I believe by law they have to be covered because every child concieved in the US is considered a ward of the state and thus entitled to prenatal care and after birth care.

Things may have changed , but this is so basic, I think it is still true.

    HI,

You're wife made a wise decision to have the baby born there. I think she is qualified for Medicaid since you're on Disability. Check w/ the State of Mississippi Health Dept. Good Luck and Congratulations
