When I first arrived here last January, I bought with me a few necessary items not realizing the impact of those items. They were everyday normal things to me.
I bought two laptops, two iPhones, a nice digital camera, a pocket size digital video camera, my electric toothbrush, my rechargeable electric razor, a rechargeable 6" flat panel TV.
The reasons for the laptops and iPhones was a simple "I'm not going to chat rooms".
After I got here and found out that I had to wait for water to get hot before I could have coffee, I went out and bought a "bottom of the line" microwave with a simple turn type knob and there was still a two week learning curve for everyone.
I had Globe internet installed, and that was a big deal, but then I bought a Wi-Fi router so I could use our iPhones, and the neighborhood was amazed.
But, in a world where those things are not normal everyday items, it creates quite a sensation.
It was hard to brush my teeth with my wife's family and the neighbor kids watching me.
10 months later, I still get stares as I sit on the porch and shave in the mornings.
I tried to explain to Mae-Mae a movie that I saw many years ago called "The Gods Must Be Crazy" and it just didn't make sense to her. Then, while in a video store in the mall, by accident, I found a copy of that movie.
After watching it, my wife laughed and said "now I understand".
    What is "normal"?
    Just my own observations.
As a post-script.....I never put a password on the Wi-Fi until one night my wife noticed it blinking and we weren't using it. It seems that a couple of our neighbors were using it also. It is now password and encrypted.

Jack, the funny thing is that they never spoke to me before. The only reason I know the two that it was, is because one of them walked around outside trying to log on and the other one asked my brother-in-law if we had put a password on our Wi-Fi.
    Lol

    ha ha ha

:D Strange way to meet the neighbours, usually you just invite them for a coffee or a beer.
" HI Folks, Wanna use my WIFI connection" Nice style Ron, I like it.

You can also name it, so when people see the name the know which one to log onto. Where I now work in CA my laptop can pick up at least 30 Wifi signals with 2 being "public" and not needing a password. My favorite name for a WiFi is "INFECTED". No one wants to log onto that one! :D

KDF.....i'm going to insert the disk and rename mine infected. That is very very cool. Right now it is the only Wi-Fi around here and I just left the name "dlink" which is the default name.
