Turkey, dressing, gravy and mashed potatoes. Miss the pumpkin pie but love the life here. Meeting new friends and learning new language. Thankful for being alive to enjoy the experience. Gobble gobble to all.

Yes, there are a few things I miss and a good Thanksgiving dinner will be one of them I'm sure.
On a trip to Cebu, my wife had her first taste of mashed potatos at a restaurant there. She didn't understand the concept, or consistancy and didn't like the taste. I guess it's a "US thing".
Of course, I can't do fish and rice for breakfast, or get use to powdered milk.
Thanksgiving is a great tradition as long as we remember the original meaning.
And also the fond memories of sitting around afterwards bloated from eating too much.
    Thanks for the thought.

actually no Idea, but knowing Big G, it does not really matter and should be good, even Turkey for thanksgiving might not be a typical Austrian tradition

Ron, mashed (or creamed) potatoes is also a "British thing". Bangers and mash is a very old traditional dish. Mashed potato is also the topping for shepherds pie and cottage pie.
Boil the spuds for 25-30 minutes, it gets rid of a lot of the starch. Drain the water. Add a little milk and butter and mash it. Hey presto.
Any left over, once cold, can be made in to burger shapes and shallow fried both sides until brown and crisp. Delicious as a snack, ideally with cold meat and salad.
Have a joyful and bloated Thanksgiving.
