:smile:I arrived in October 2010 so I am new to Dumaguete and have to learn a lot about this remarkable town with the Gentle People. I like to live a healthy lifestyle, to eat organically grown, biological vegetables and cereals with the full nutritional value. I am a vegetarian for more than 40 years because I don't like to kill nor make others to kill animals for my food. I don't smoke; I admire towns like Davao with no smokers in the public areas. I like to use alternative energies.

Are there other people around in this town with a similar lifestyle? Are there shops in Dumaguete which follow the same philosophy and offer only (or mostly) healthy food?

I trust you will have to search far and wide for those things and I for one hope they never become too popular. I love to eat my animals and I do love to be healthy, I just have to work harder at it. keep hunting, there has to be granola and tofu somewhere in Dumaguete. I do agree with the smoking though, nasty habit and I am glad I was able to give it up.

Zak, let me know if you do find something similar. While I do enjoy a whole grain bread, pasta and some good produce I've never seen it here. When it does arrive, because of hte very limited market, it'll be very very pricey.

Breadworth does an OK whole grain, no sugar, bread roll. They are located in Lee Plaza and in Hypermart as well.

I will bring from Greece tomato seeds. I mean the big, red tomatoes which we eat in Mediterranean countries.

Did any friend tried to cultivate them here ? Success ? Suggestions please...

    Mediterranean tomatoes

    Dear Akis,
it would be wonderful to have these tasteful, big, red tomatoes also in the Philippines, in Dumaguete.
I like the Greek "insalata xoriatiki" very much, the (tasty, big, red) tomatoes together with cucumbers, onions, black olives, feta, rigani and the Greek olive oil.

In the market at Robinson's Mall, there is both tofu, soymilk and some pretty tasty granola cereals. They seem to have included one or two aisles with health products they are looking to promote.

    Good luck!

Lee Plaza has the same, and I would assume Hypermart also.

Hey Jack, I'll sit down with you anytime and share a pack of cigarettes, a roasted pig, and some Red Horse. And later we will snack on some junk food snacks. I'm 69 and afraid my systems would shut down if I tried "healthy" now.
But, I expect my motorcycle and Philippines traffic will kill me first. Lol
I admire people like Zac, it just ain't for me.
