Jack, I like your ideas. Flobenz makes some good points and if there is no apparent budget, without taxing the people more to offset the cost, then making changes without adding cost may be the only way for improvements. What if say Perdices and the Boulevard were made 'no vehicles allowed - pedestrian walking only'? Some of the vacant lots around maybe could be used for parking. Or maybe a large pedestrian-only square around the center like say Vienna has. Flobenz made a solid strong statement saying "it doesn't mean she shouldn't stop asking for it". She is right.
This is not the right forum to solve Dgte's problems so the people have to ask their local politicians to support their change requests or perhaps write their congressman.

I'm glad to see some contributors are coming around to the idea that changes are required. Dont just think about today, think about the coming years and the economic development that will continue and the pressure that will be put on the current infrastructure.

FloBenz is absolutely correct in standing firm and saying things need to get better....I agree 100% with her too. Why should anybody want Dumaguete to turn out like any other city in the Philippines? Time to act now to pre-empt the innevitable.

Initial measures can be taken with enforcing dicipline by effective local traffic management...this will help in the near term. But as I said in the previous thread on this topic, long term planning and solutions are required because Dumaguete wont be getting any smaller. No point burying heads in the sand and accepting it for what it is, everybody needs to look carefully at how rapidly the town has changed. I returned last october after one year away and was quite alarmed at the change in traffic volume in such a short time. I'm glad to say I have now sold my car and will use trikes instead.
