⌛ The postcard's almost 100 years old now..

A previous find by a DumagueteInfo member of a postcard sent by Laura Hubbard back in 1911..





Silliman University was established in 1901 by Protestant missionaries of the Presbyterian church in the United States. The man burdened to give the initial seed money was Dr. Horace B. Silliman.

The Presbyterian Board sent David Hubbard and his wife Laura, two Christian teachers to begin the school. It became the first Protestant school founded in the Philippines and the oldest Christian University in Asia.



Seems like we ought to throw a party or something..

it looks like a colour photo to me.From 1911?? or was the colour added later?

 

...they are called hand tinted postcards, a very common technique in the early 1900s, and that's exactly what it looks like.

For cameras, the 3 color process is existing since mid 1800s and is still the commonly used process even in nowadays common electronic photography. the first one shot color camera was sold 1900 or so...

Then two buildings were identified as the original governor's mansion on the right which i think burned. It is now Honeycomb. I think there's a pic inside Honeycomb.

The home on the left is the Teves home, now the green home to the left of Bethel.

 

Hmm oldest christian university in asia? 1911 is to young

The University of San Carlos (USC) in Cebu City is considered as the oldest school in the country and in Asia. Formerly known as the Colegio de San Ildefonso, it was founded by the Spanish Jesuits on August 1, 1595. This makes the Cebu-based university older than the University of Santo Tomas (1611) in Manila and Harvard University (1636) in the United States.
