19 countries are boycotting today’s Peace Nobel Prize ceremony. Besides the usual suspects, surprisingly also a proud democracy like the Philippines! Does anybody know why? Is China about to invade the Philippines, or what?

Probably because of the tour bus hostage-taking incident, they don't want to further annoy China. Or that they're worried the chinese will no longer flood the Philippines with excellent quality products. Or they probably already spent the budget on "something else".

Just when relations between China and America are warming up over Korea, some Guys starts giving out Peace Prizes, very Noble of them........only joking
Maybe the trade links between Philippines and China, not to mention mixed race connections, may be playing a part.

The net just says "boycotting" but doesn't say individual reasons. It does say some due to protest against China and some supporting China.
But, the reasons listed above are the most viable ones I think.

It's because of the ongoing military trade deal between China and the Philippines. Hey, after getting all these old surplus military equipment from the US, the Philippines is now tired of getting junk. China being a close neighbor that has a strong military is willing to upgrade and assist in the Philippines defense.

We would not want to mess up this deal by going to the Nobel now would we

70 year old U.S. surplus is of higher and longer lasting quality than most Chinese crap. Just ask the Philippine military! :D They loved their U.S. made stuff during their show inside Robinson's over the summer and had almost all of it proudly on display!

Was it not a few month ago a big ceremony with the USA ambassador signing over 22 million dollars or very near a billion pesos to the philippines federal coffers? The funds a gift to the philippines for the support of forces for domestic security from internal threats such as terrorist..I wont be surprised if thats the money in the shopping spree in China, what is america gonna complain? All the pinoy have to do is raise the ambassadors collar to find the tag for him that says his suit was made in china....And it wouldnt hurt for some money to hire people to expand local peace keepers ranks and maybe hire some terrorist so they are employed now for the country rather than jobless running the local hills looking for any means to grub..

The Philippines Government changed their mind about the boycott at the very last moment (same as the Ukraine) and decided to participate after all. Seems the right thing to do, but .... why did they decide to boycott first? And why the U-turn later?
