You are right about the city being one large metropolis. At one time I worked for Brown & Root in Pasadena (Stinkadena) while living in Baytown. There was a four lane highway going east to the refinery I was building (Diamond Shamrock maybe?) and a 2 lane bottleneck at the 2 lane tunnel under the ship channel. DUH!!!

I'm from the REAL beginning of the oil industry, Oil City, PA.

FYI - News Flash for you Jerry. All these years later, it is STILL a 2 lane tunnel under the ship channel.

Don't get me wrong about Houston traffic. There has been improvements. The Katy Freeway is now 24 lanes wide (12 each way) and there is the relatively new high-speed (75 mph - 120 kph) outer Beltway 8 if you don't mind paying $1.25 for each 5 miles (8km) and a new 6 lane ship channel bridge for $3.00 toll connected to Beltway 8.
This is why I love phils......simplicity.
The traffic here is wonderful to me.

Nah, he & I both mean the road between Baytown & Houston is 4 lanes total, 2 each way EXCEPT for the ship channel tunnel which is only a total of 2 lanes, 1 each way which creates a major bottleneck on a 4 lane thoroughfare.
