That is not just the problem of the Philippines in fact if there was not control on fishing in the West oceans would be completely over fished and I might add that those controls are not solving the total problem.

Here in the Philipines there are many fishermen that try to survive poverty and feed their families. The normal tradition of eating small fished fresh or dried is embeded deep citizens here want to buy cheap and tasty food and due to their poverty situation are used to living on a daily bases and are more worried about putting enough food on the table to feed their large families.

The problem is of course more a population growth thing and growing poverty. Your statement of they just think from nose to mouth is not actually true, they think of daily survival and for many its hard to put just one meal a day on the table.

The only people that can stop over fishing are the law makers but it takes money to ensure laws are up held. Effort are being made to control over fishing and illegal fishing but without enough enforcers and funds its become more a case of we are doing what we can.

It only stands to reason...you catch all the young fish before they can even breed, and soon there will be no fish.
    Canned stuff i suppose.

The last time I saw anything significant over four foot long in the Philippines was 2005. And it was a turtle....Very lucky turtle. Place is absolutely fooked. They better hope and pray they get enough aquaculture in place to feed themselves - because they've rooted the marine life.

Well dynamite fishing and cyanide had also decimated everything around the Philippines. My dive master said he has seen one shark in over 800 dives around Balicasag and Alona Beach Panglao.
We can thank the Catholic Church for encouraging the population explosion..perhaps they can empty their coffers to feed the needy.
I am not sure how the decimation of the shark population will eventually effect the whole ecological balance in our oceans but it surely will.
I remember the huge Japanese trawlers sitting just outside El Nido, Palawan in the 90's drag net fishing..so it's not just the local fisherman!

Whilst staying at villa terisita in talisay last week i was having coffee watching the fishing boats, the next thing is a huge explosion due to one fisherman using dynamite!!! Was very surprised as thought this was made illegal some time ago? I think every fishing boat in the area was there very quickly!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sad situation, I hope I don't end up eating any fish resulting from dynamite fishing.

    Dynamite!

It wasn't Alfred Nobel's intention to let others use his invention Dynamite for fishing. I don't think so! What do you think? Are there any Dynamite left after the Iraq war?
d*mn fishermen, I wonder if the dynamite bang blew their eardrums wide open and surprised themselves more than the fish. Does a fish have eardrums???????? One time I called upon a big Salmon but he didn't respond to me, so I assume not.
