Yesterday, it was my third - and last - ride on a Ceres Liner bus.

The reason is simple. I cannot afford their lousy films shown, either for 3 or 6 hours trip. Enough !

Third class American movies with unknown actors - the usual "motherf.., plain "f..", "sh.." and the rest of ..elegant, smart dialogs - or if with known actors second class films and always very loud ! as if we are half deaf..

I must clarify that I am not a religious person, deaf or seeking pure silence on a long trip.
Furthermore, I am a movie fan enjoying for many decades all the short lists of each year Oscar Awards.

So, I believe that the manager(s) of this company are : a) Pervert or b) They get paid by USA film producers (or their local distributors) to promote - continuously - their vomitive films.

The problem is that kids and youngsters are watching these craps without their parents ever think to complain and/or ask to show better dvd's on screen.

A month ago, from Dumaguete to Bacolod, there were onboard twelve pastors of various churches going back. To the first stop for snacks, one of them listened my comments to my wife and we started a chat about. I asked him "why don't you complain and ask to show something normal ?" His reply was stunning ! "We are just passengers". I answered "Not exactly. Above all you are citizen with rights and then a passenger ! Plus that you are twelve with friends, not just you alone.." This is a typical Pinoy mentality that let any pervert or criminal play and run away to this country.. It seems that 400 years of slavery are deeply written to their DNA.

To the second stop another pastor asked my wife "is your husband annoyed with the film ?" No, she said, if for you it's fine to listen all the time "motherf*cker", no…" His thought was ..me not the content ! Finally, they complained to the driver and oops, miracolo-miracolo, a nice Filipino comedy started and all passengers had a great time - laughing, at last - since we reached Bacolod. (Except ..me as I don't know Tagalog)

So, half of the trip with sirens, ta-ta-ta machine guns, hand grenades and vomiting dialogs and half with laughing..

A friend commented "don't mess with the local powerful guys. One night a torch to your roof, bye- bye house or some bullets in broad daylight just out of McDonalds.."

    ???????????

 akis51 your Final comment leaves me to believe you are watching too many movies. You would have found a complaint/comment book at the terminal office. Whilst we will read and smile I guess at the story, sad as it is, Only official complaints are likely to be heard. I guess you will buy a car now for your journeys, that way you can choose your own films. Of course, Ceres may have taken a consensus on DVDs and you are in the minority. Whatever, I hope it did not spoil; the purpose of the journey.

    akis51,
While I sympathize with your dilemma,
If I was a Pinoy I would be offended by this part of your above statement.

It is a changing World and not for the better, that's why a lot of expat's arrive in the Philippines, looking for a more quality way of life. Philippines is one of the few Countries that can be called "Christian" (if nothing more than offering a set of rules to apply to life). It is the influences of the Western World that will eventually change this beautiful Land....JB

Seems like earplugs and/or an ipod would be in order or a non aircon bus.

Or move farther back in the bus, where one can hardly hear the movie at all.

We were sitting to the rear seats but the speakers are working well !

But all previous replies missed my point.

It's not a matter of selfish complain but I just wonder how parents doesn't react protecting their children ! What mentality is this ? That's all..

I'm with you, Akis. There seems to be absolutely NO sensitivity for the kids. Or, for middle of the road adults, either. I probably swear more than the average guy, but, still, the blatant and needless repetitive use of such language disgusts me.

There is a deeply ingrained mentality here that accepts any and all demonstrations of authority, no matter how ridiculous. Just try to exit a store by going out the "entrance."
Or, parking a car in an area a self appointed parker has decided to designate for motorcycles only. Or returning totally defective merchandise to a clerk who has been told the store will not accept any returns. Or asking a teacher to spend a little more time on subject matter and less time on sweeping floors or preparations for the next parade/fiesta. Or suggesting that the guard simply leave the gate open during extremely busy times, rather than swinging it open and closed dozens of times in a half hour span.

Here, it's all about form. Not about function or practicality.

If "the American way" of f.BEEP.ck or sh.BEEP.t is the solution, i doubt.

    Respect!

 Well as a Foreigner here with some years standing, I never forget that it is THEIR country not ours. I have Posted this before but will say it again, " "When in Rome " If I come across things I can not change, I leave well alone. I Accept what you say Akis but we all have to look for the Alternatives.

I have been in similar position, on a bus, bombarded by a movie with violence, sometimes towards women and children and foul language which has been mentioned.

I find it interesting "when in Rome" as an acceptable reason for enduring this crap.

I feel sorry for people that do not know what are acceptable levels of behavior.

I have no problem telling the driver to turn it off. my guess is the movie is chosen by the driver or ticket collector, not the company.

How rich is the silence on a bus without music or movies.
