Art it seems like this really is the place that you need to be. Phils will pretty much fit your lifestyle exactly and the adjustments should be minimal.
Please come and join the fun.
The only thing that you might have a problem with is high-speed Internet. It seems that none of us can seem to find it.
Most of us here are your age bracket and most started out in your same situation relationship-wise.
Now that we know more about you we can help you in most specific questions, but reading the forum will answer a lot for you.
Again, welcome and ask anything that you want. We are here to help.

And, you mentioned security. Most of the homes that foreigners live in are cement or cinderblock construction all exterior and all interior walls which makes them almost bullet proof. Most of us have "grills", as they call them here, burgular bars in the US, on the windows. As someone here said, this is one of the few countries where putting broken glass in cement on the top of fence walls is allowed and I see it a lot. The only really weak point is the doors (locks and jams) which are very easy to reinforce.
Of course, a dog or a few geese is always good.

Art, my personal preference for a "must bring" item is an Apple iPhone. I bought 2 with me. They are very expensive here (about $800.00), and it is now perfectly legal to unlock them before you come here. I added the free apps for money conversion, metric conversion and a translation program the helped me a bunch when I first arrived here. When I got here I just popped out the ATT SIM cards and popped in a local SIM and it worked perfectly. Other electronics such as laptops are the same price or cheaper here, and because of the Chinese knock-offs, the selection is better also.

I'm getting really helpful information so far. The tips about iPhones and security are new to me. Thanks for those tips! I've also had a friend request. The message was a nice one full of sincerity. I'm feeling welcome here in the forum. Thanks to all.

Lost in bliss is a great place if you're doomed to be lost in bliss.

Yea ... TekaMuna ... I'm trying to learn some language before I get there. It's always been a policy of mine to learn as much lingo as I can before arriving. Taught myself survival French, Portuguese, Fijian and Husbandese.

TekaMuna, Remember Yokwe from the Marshall Islands? If not it's like Aloha. We have both been in some of the same islands and you and I have also been in different ones.
Looks like some good stories when you get here.

Ron, My time in the Marshall Islands was brief but some of them were in other places I lived and worked. I don't know Yokwe but how about Bula, Mahalo and YesDear?

I'm sure we got LOTS to talk about. Hope you drink.
