As of today more than 30,000.oo PHP and I still might lose my left foot and leg.
On January 20 th. at 3:35 pm. I hit a dog with my motor and crashed. I was not traveling very fast because I was right down town Dumaguete. Bike and I had some minor road-rash. I was also knocked out for a minute or two. After making sure that I had my senses back I went about the business that had me going to town in the first place. Left foot turned black and blue and had a very small scratch on the out side of the ankle. I believe that happened because I went down on the left side of the bike and I think my ankle and foot got in between the bike and the roadway. It was not giving me much pain and I could walk so it was of little concern to me. After three days the foot and ankle were badly swollen and it was painful to walk. Tried to doctor it myself and on the 6th. day I went to the ER and had it X-rayed, nothing broken. After three Doctors I was told it was an infection and put on antibiotics. Today 12 days after, ankle, foot and leg no longer purple. From the knee down it is red, inflamed and badly swollen. Returned to see Doc. #3 and the current antibiotic was increased and another stronger antibiotic was added. The thought of loosing my leg scares the hell out of me. I am now 13 days into this nightmare.

Now, I was wondering how many people need to be killed and dismembered before this government dose anything about all the lose/wild dogs on the streets of this Island? May be they are doing nothing about this because of all the money that is being pored into the Negros Medical economy. I surly hope not.

Until they do take care of the dogs, and even w/o concern about the dog population, anyone on a motorcycle should wear a helmet, and maybe invest in crash bars. There is one older Filipino m/c rider who even wears plastic elbow and knee pads.

FWIW, I was told 12yrs ago that motorcycle accidents were the biggest cause of foreigner deaths in PI.

Hope your leg gets better. You might want to go to Cebu to get a better opinion?

Last advice to all is: Don't waste time medicating yourself in PI when Drs are so cheap.

Hi grandpainak. I sincerely hope the stronger antibiotic does a good Job. Your gut should tell you if you need to journey to Cebu, Manila or maybe even HK ? Take best care and I wish you well.

I hope the best for you, I have similar problem. A guy came out of nowhere and hit me at about a 60 degree angle not looking before he pulled off the shoulder onto the hwy. we both went down and i ended up with my right foot under my bike like you with some road rash. I went to a clinic and also got some antibiotics. The rash is getting better but still a lot of foot pain and no redness, I can move every thing but its still painful. Might go get an Xray today. I feel for ya buddy. having positive thoughts for ya. take care

Just a thought..... Have you checked yourself for diabetes..... a minor wound that wont heal is a bad sign....I echo the others here.....go to Cebu....Chung Hua Hospital.... get the BEST medical advice you can afford.... There are excellent doctors here in Dumaguete..... in the Philippines....but there are also some quacks..... people who go through the motions but really have no clue..... I have had four friends who had osteopathic problems only to have to have the bones re-broken and set again in a different country..... the closer you get to Manila the easier it will be to find good medical services.....
This is not an attack on the Philippines....there are quacks in my own country.... that is why going to more than one doctor until you get good results never hurts anything but the pocket book.... a quack can get you dead

Grandpainak I hope you get well soon. Have you tried ice packs to your leg? Although I would like to ride a bike I don't because I don't take those injuries like I once could withstand.

I agree with the other guys, get checked for diabetes pls.

early this year the american embassy sent a representative and assistant to dumaguete and held a forum for americans to attend and recieve updates, register and track americans in area and answer questions,I was there and remember them giving info that the highest # of deaths of americans in hospitals were those who checked in and died of gangrene infection. They added that most of those had diabetes..I hope all is well with you,,I'm having prolong flu and cold symptoms with lungs infection being the core of it while knowing that the highest # of overall deaths in PI is upper respiratory infection,,Get well all,get well soon..

First and obvious, I wish you the absolute best in your recovery.
As of yesterday, I have been riding motorcycles for 49 years aqnd I have been "down" 5 times with the most serious being 3 broken bones in my right foot in 2004. i have been very very lucky.
My wife and I was stopped (asked to pull over) by another rider, on a Rouser, 2 days ago and asked to join the Rouser Club here They have rides together once a month to various places. On these trips, they all wear the typical (USA) rocket bike clothes that consist of a leather jacket, heavy pants, motocross type boots, and of course helmets. A lot of them also wear the motocross style knee pads, elbow pads and gloves.
I know this sounds like maybe a case of over-doing it, but is there really such a thing as being too safe here?
Old biker saying in the US - "You ride - you fall". never a question of "if", only of "when".
Grandpainak - get better my friend..................
