:D Ebie57's reply to noise made me smile a little, The cigarette butt thing made me think about our Houseboy, We bought him a Motor Bike, so he could do our shopping, over the Xmas period we had some work done to our window grills, The welder was ok and in the main did a good job. However, as is here, he was without some tools and equipment, one of the grills was a little larger than the frame he brought to complete his task. He needed to reverse the frame and weld the off set retainer legs. He needed to have a further support, he chose a tree near the frame. Alas he was a nail short to improvise a hanging. Our helper returned from taking our daughter to school, he had a puncture and was pushing the motorbike, he said, what are you all looking for, as we have Dogs, we tend to keep the front yard free of metalic things. We three of us said in unison, a nail romell, have you seen one, about 2 inches long will do. He smiled and said oh yes I have one. He then went to the motorbike, removed a nail from the tyre, used a hammer to straighten it and handed it to the welder who, duly hammered it into the tree and continued his task. This I call resourceful. This how the helper can be of use.

    "The Philippine way" my friend.
When I first got here, I was drinking my coffee one morning and watching a neighbor remove nails from some boards. I thought to myself "those boards aren't worth saving".
That is my USA mentality I guess.
After he finished, he cut up the boards for firewood and straightened the nails to be used again.

Filipinos are indeed a resourceful lot, and the poorer and more rural they are the more resourceful they get! :D

Ever see a pair of these?
