Great information Ron. If you read the various travel advisories, as Jack pointed out, they give a blanket warning for the whole region. Having people like you to decipher the warning is one of the things that makes this forum unique and useful.

I have made this trip about six times in the first six of the last eight years. No hint of trouble.

    In last three years:

I have bussed between Dapitan and Zamboanga four times. Drivers stopped to let soldiers on for inspection three times on two trips. No trouble any trip.

Have bussed Dapitan to Iligan twice. Iligan to CdO once. As other message told also Cdo to Davao (some of which trips were earlier). Operated my own coach (car) between Dapitan and Davao three times. Arrived at bay pier for trip to Ozamiz (at 9:03pm) with seven hours to wait for ferry and ended up messing around in "terrorist territory" for five hours. No trouble any trip.

Some fellow named Ron something or other used to provide Mindanao safety reports; but he may have given it up. If you can find his stuff on the WWW, you might be comforted.
