Hi, I am new to this site. I have been checking out the PI for almost a year now. Researching Cebu, Pawalan, Daveo, CDO, and Bacolod etc. I am single and 62 yrs old, from Colorado, USA. Will be retiring to the PI, hopefully the end of this year or early next year. Could tell me a little something about your city of residence? thank you

If you have never spent any real time the Philippines, I would strongly recommend you come for a visit, say 6 months or more. It is different living here than travelling. About half the people who pick up and move here get to wishing they hadn't within a year or two. I personally know two people who came here without ever having been here, sold everything back home, only to find they couldn't hack it. One only lasted two months before he went back, lost most of his life savings in the process.

If you like overcrowding, noise and pollution, you can come to Cebu.
We are moving to Duma before the end of this year.

    welcome to DI johnwboy,

great to have you on board, ask all you want to get all info you need. Like in another thread stated, Dumaguete has foreigner waves, coming in and almost the number out ( at least id they can afford).

I see many here spending like also mentioned before their life savings without any other options than being here becoming grumpy and complaining about everything.

The pretty low medical standard here is for elderly also a big issue. (Also some interesting threads on the board) I saw people die in the praised medical center of Dumaguete cause of lacking of a 1500 $ defibrillator. One of our members run to 6 doctors and still got no solution (well he is also to proud to go to a real City).

There is a lot to learn about Dumaguete and the only way is learning by doing. meaning exactly the same what Shadow suggested. Spending money on a house and lot without knowing anything about the City, at least nothing about the development the last few years can lead to a bad awakening...

well, there is still McDo where the Dumaguetes foreign Ambassador and his Clan trying to safe Dumaguete and the world each morning during unlimited coffee before drowning themselves in warm redhorse. Not a bad place for a good laugh though ...

    cheers

    Rhoody

    No defibrillator??!! WHAT??!!

In the city of "fry everything to death" they have no defibrillator? I assume you were speaking of SUMC? They still have no defibrillator? I am going to buy me an AED, bring it home with me and go into business of saving lives from home!!!
You really mean to say they don't even have old, archaic defibrillators here? Now, I am scared!! I am going to ask around at SUMC tomorrow....will be there. I just cannot imagine them not having crash carts with defibrillators, and each dept having access................................my head is swimming!!!!!:eek:

Thanks guys for your replies. I spent a year back in the sixties in SEA, so I pretty much know the "lay of the land". Spent time in Bankok, Thailand. It was just to big of a city for me. And the language barrier :( I will be taking a prelim trip to the PI this year. Now.....all I need to find is a good golf course nearby. I have read online, at one of the forums that the Iloilo Golf Club at Beverly Estates is pretty good, but their site does not mention how much a membership or how much a daily green fee would be. It is the oldest golf course in the PI.

Welcome to the forum John, but a few months back in the 60's does not make one an "old hand" over here.

Hi John, I have a lot of friends golfing 3 to 5 times per week here. They are a good fun bunch.
