Hello and nice to meet everyone in advance. I originally visited Dumaguete back in Nov 2002 for about a month. I was there to visit my ex-fiance and her parents/family in Siquijor. I fell in love with Dumaguete City back then and I am contemplating a long visit and or retiring in the RP. I live in West Central Florida, about 40 miles South of Tampa in a city called Bradenton.

I have been all around the World and Cebu, Siquijor and especially Dumaguete City captured my heart back then and since I have been fortunate enough to retre in my 40's, I am seriously thinking about a return extended visit. My son, who is almost 7, is half Siquijor (sp) and I would like for him to meet his relatives and them to also meet my son.

    Hello Jack,

Yes back then we were not married and we are divorced. The reason was unfortunate, as she decided to split, while I was helping my late Mother battle cancer. I was never able to get my ex to understand and it is sad.

Yes life does go on. I do not have a set time for the arrival yet, but I am gearing things together.

I'm in Lake Mary, FL and due to go back to the Philippines in a month.

I'd do a long visit to PI before you decide to retire there. Anyplace can look good for a few months..

Welcome to the forum Bull Shark. Dumaguete could be a little boring for a retired guy in his 40's unless diving or hiking is high on your to do list. But if you have money to travel around it could work out nicely for you as Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore, etc are just a flight away. Good luck.

    PatO-

    Thanks for the welcome.

I really enjoyed Dumaguete back in November 2002 when I was there last. I don't mind being bored in Dumaguete at all. I love the weather there, as it's just a tad hotter/humid than Central Florida. The laid back style is OK for me. I will possibly do some traveling when I get there but that is not on my list right now. The friendly people also really left a permanent lasting good impression on me. I have lived all around the World and the people of Dumaguete City were absolutely the friendliest and nicest that I can ever recall.
I can honestly say that I miss Dumaguete City and I look forward to my extended vacation there.

Being a former New Yorker, I can totally understand why the Visayas would appeal to you: lovely people. I feel a heck of a lot better being out and about in the Phils than I do in Hong Kong!
