Hello, can anyone teach me scuba diving? I've already tried snorkeling and it's fun. And now I want to try scuba. The problem is equipment for scuba are expensive, cant afford:(. Is there someone I could borrow or rent those equipment?

 If I was a betting man, I would give you 100 to 1, that you will have at least 5 answers to this by 1pm.

Really? Thats good to here. I've always wanted to try that thing. As I observed, mostly only foreigners are fund of diving here. Seldom for the local resident. hehehe. Maybe its just to expensive for an average dumaguete resident.

Expensive is relative... it is a worldwide valid license for a lifetime.
A PADI license in a professional diveshop is plus/minus 17k. that includes all.

There are cheaper options available but many of them have restrictions (many times in safety-aspects) or extra hidden charges. While the course can be done in 4 days, as a resident you have more time and it can be scheduled to your convenience.

The Open Water course includes 14 Modules (5 chapters knowledge development, 5 confined or pool-dives, 4 open water dives).

My experience with locals was the best when we did the course in 10 - 14 days. We first got the theory out of the way (maybe 1 pool and OW session in between) and after that finishing the water-work in 2 - 3 days easy and relaxed.

Hope I could help you a bit.

    cheers

Sadly, it does take some funding to get scuba certified and rent the equipment you need. I had the same situation when I was young and wanted to go skiing, no funding the cover the requirements.

If you want to do it cheaper, then here's a couple of ideas:

    1) Learn from someone you know, if you know someone who's a divemaster perhaps or works with diving, you can learn from them. You won't be certified of course, but that's how many locals learn to dive in the first place. Will you learn everything you need to know? Possibly. Is it dangerous learning from a non-instructor? Possibly. Will you be insured if you hurt yourself or something goes wrong - definitely not.

    2) Go to Harold's Mansion or Scuba Ventures (they are right next to each other) Last time I checked, they only charged around 12.000php for PADI open water.

    3) Find some friends or other people who also want to learn, and walk into one of the dive shops asking for a discount because there's five of you. I know I'd give you a discount for sure!

good suggestions... group discounts work usually everywhere

but it is not possible to make an OW for 12k anymore, unless there are hidden charges (sanctuary fees,PIC, etc.), the instructor works for free or shortcuts in standards and safety.Snoopy charges 12k when e-learning is completed beforehand, so you end up with around 15k.

another option is down-payment, many (non-european) shops do this in Duma and Dauin.
