I guess you can call it that, but yes you will either keep your eyes wide or open or shut very tight.

    I don't know.
    On 3-rd of March 2011 I paid 200 pesos + 70 on the ferry.

I find the ride on AC Ceres to/from Cebu to be about the mellowest ride in the Philippines. Try taking the Philippine Rabbit from Cebu/Tabuelan, or a mini bus Argao/Cebu.

FYI, the bus fare is set to increase by 40% in April.

I have to agree with Larry. It takes about the same time as the fast craft that stops in Bohol on the way to Cebu. The fast craft charges for excess luggage. The seats on the AC bus are just as comfortable as the boat and if you take the boat when it is a bit choppy half your traveling companions will be sea sick.

I guess the plane is Ok if it flies at a time and day that is convenient, you don't want to carry more than a tooth brush and a pair of underwear, and you have made your reservations far enough in advance.

I can decide to go to Cebu on one day, catch the first trip the next morning and be in the center of the city by the start of business the next day.

I recon Ceres is the only way to go.

Cebu south terminal to Dumaguete on the aircon bus is 200P exactly. You also pay 70Pesos for the ferry fee. Took 4 hours and 45 minutes yesterday....
