Does anyone have any experience using unionbank to receive automatic deposits from US social security? I need to setup an account for my parents but the Union bank personnel could not tell us for certain if it needs to be a dollar account or if a peso account would work. Thanks
I have dollars deposited into a peso account but not at UnionBank because that is how I prefer it. I would think it would be your choice. Ask to speak with a manager.
Don't use Union Bank, but.. I do use BDO for my monthly social security payment. It took a little while to set it up. since then it's worked fine. They charge $4.75 per month, however. The social security office in Manila was most helpful in getting it all started. I think I still have the email address for them if you need it.

If your US social security is sent to a Philippines bank it has to be a secured account - no checking, no ATM. Worked fine for me with BDO except when I moved to Dgte from Makati I could not withdraw from the Makati bank or transfer funds from a secure account. The Manila SSA office is very responsive to emails.
I have a Dollar account at BPI. They only allow me to personally appear to withdrew funds. No atm allowed on this account even if it was converted to peso's. I have a direct un published number for the U.S. embassy that will transfer you to a live SS rep. I'm not sure if it should be posted in public or not. So to play it safe you can PM me and will give it to you. The Manilla SS has always been very good and helpful. Ron
