I want to understand this obsession of blaming everything on "oil"

FIRST HOW?.... America gets more of its oil from Canada that ALL of the Middle East.... how is attacking Libya getting us "oil" or how are we profiting from Libyan oil by attacking Libya?

SECOND.... America has more oil that any other country....our President has called for more domestic oil recovery....even after the BP tragedy.... we have enough domestic oil to completely halt all purchases from the Middle East.... all our oil money would go to Americans not Middle Eastern terrorist supporters.....WHY would we want Libyan oil?

FINALLY Kept hearing this during the Iraq conflict....even though America had NOTHING to do with Iraqi oil or the profits there of (the UN ran the Iraqi oil industry along with the Iraqi government)

No one has yet been able to show me where America made one dime off of Middle East oil in any of these wars.....in fact when one American diplomat suggested we work a "sweet deal" for Iraqi oil....HE WAS FIRED

footnote: I am against America's involvement in Libya.... everytime we do this crap we screw it up.... make things worse

The majority of Libya oil is sold to European countries (see chart below), so I guess from a NATO perspective it may be fair to say it is about oil.

    Libya oil exports Jan-Nov 2010 (Source www.eia.gov/)
    Italy – 28%
    France – 15%
    China – 11%
    Germany – 10%
    Spain – 10%
    Greece – 5%
    United Kingdom – 4%
    U.S. – 3%
    Other – 14%

No argument on who buys the oil....but why would shutting down and risking the destruction of the Libyan oil fields be in their interests.... how would they benefit..... As an ex-military man I can not see how this operation can succeed unless the UN gets significantly more involved..... the best I can see is a deadlock..... possibly no oil shipments or pumping.... a lose-lose for everyone

I agree that the U.S. should have stayed out of Libya, unless our allies intend to invade and ask for our help. [ They came to our party, only fair we should come to theirs ] We have no pressing national interest there, nor do our allies need our fighters to conduct air strikes in Libya. It's not like we need the practice.

America has a long history of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries..... and it always seems to turn out bad.... we assassinated the PM of Iraq and ended up with Saddam Hussein....we assassinated the PM of Iran only to end up with Abudenajerk.....we went into Afghanistan to help combat the Russians and ended up with Al Quida and the Taliban....we assassinated the President of South Vietnam and ended up losing the entire country..... we do not seem to ever get it right..... maybe we should mind our own business....Heaven knows we have a lot of problems of our own that need taking care of
None of these countries that are currently rebelling seem to be headed any place good.... Egypt who just ousted Mubarak....has now passed a law making protests a criminal offense.... all those brave Egyptian people may have won NOTHING....less freedom; not more more freedom
I do not see "oil" as a factor..... we just can not seem to mind our own business

When the Tea Party Movement holds protests in America....is the UN going to create a no fly zone ?

I hate Ghadafi.... I think he is a very evil & bad man..... but I can not see anything we are doing that will end up well.....

Libyan rebels say they have recaptured the strategic oil town of Ajdabiya from Colonel Moammar Gadhafi's forces.

The successful operation by the rebels came after Western warplanes flew a seventh night of airstrikes enforcing a UN-mandated no-fly zone over the North African nation.

Overnight, coalition planes carried out a barrage of attacks targeting pro-Gadhafi forces around Ajdabiya. The International Committee of the Red Cross has reported that many residents are leaving because of the fighting.

Syria is in turmoil, wonder if the collation's going to declare wr on them as well.

Bravo Kojak. I didn't think that I would ever see the day that we would be in total agreement.

On 16 August 2003 Libya formally admitted responsibility (but did not admit guilt) for Pan Am Flight 103 in a letter presented to the president of the ...

No war needed, just send a missle and take the ahole out and go home.
