Just returned from Cebu and checked out the S&R Cost co type store.

To make it short, The prices on all of the food items are the same price or even more expensive then Le Place or Hyper mart. The only thing that might be cheaper are a few small appliances and kitchen ware.

Unless you have money to burn, why would you pay 700 pesos for a membership to pay higher prices for stuff.

I asked them to let us go in just to look around, It took some persuading but they finally let a girl walk around with us.

The prices at Rustin's Market were better as best as i can remember.

S & R has much choise that you will not find in Dumaguete,
Many kinds of imported cheese, fresh ham, salami etc (not frozen)
Many items are much cheaper than in Dumaguete and a choise of food never seen in Dumaguete.
Snow crablegs, King Crablegs, chocolate, frozen Pizza pie and meat and beef from all over the world.
Drambuie liquor at 926 pesos a bottle (1,295 in Robinson Dumaguete)
Frozen french fries (2kg) at 129 pesos (190 pesos in Fortune Mart)
Good value for those living in Cebu, for Dumaguete it is only good value if you buy some items for a whole year.

S&R is not price competitive for the most part (except maybe on the imported liquors, wines, meats, cheeses, etc). But, you can find things there that you will not find anywhere else...not at Rustan's, Gaisano Metro, Tinderbox and certainly no where in Dumaguete.

For Americans, it is very similar, although roughly twice the price of a Costco or Sam's in the US, but with maybe one-third the inventory but a few European/Aussie/Asian items thrown in that you would not find in the States.

If you miss your Dr. Pepper, Fanta Grape soda, Gillette clear gel deodorant, TGI Fridays/Stouffer's Lasagna (and the like) frozen foods, Whole Grain Cheerios, large jars of pepperoncinis, real dill pickles, or have a hankering for Alaskan King Crab legs and imported beef and cheese...well, it is probably worth the P700.

I just came back from the S&R in Ft. Bonifacio a couple hours ago...missed the sale up here, but will be in Cebu during their sale there....surprisingly, the new Cebu location is larger and better stocked than the one here in the Fort.

To The Dane: I am a little disappointed in the imported steak at S&R...a friend told me before that he bought his (USDA Black Angus) somewhere just outside the gates to Clark...I lost contact with him...do you happen to be familiar with this place?

    It could be in Brettos?

They mostly carry the same stuff as the Santis chain in Manila - except they charge more for their stuff
