I've been asking Bacolod locals where they go swimming, and I'm not getting much info other than Mambukal. Usually they just go swimming in pools I guess.

Yes, that's pretty much it. I wish a had a dollar for every praise of Mambukal I've heard from the locals. It is very beautiful there...but once you've been there.... Frankly though, I've met very few Filipinos who like the ocean, beaches, snorkeling..etc. Just the ones who make a livelihood from it. The rest are scared of getting one-tenth of a shade darker - my wife is in that category. That said, a lot (like my wife - who loves the forests and going for trout in the south-west rivers here in WA) do like the streams and rivers...don't have the sun intensity or salty water.

Anyway, back to Bacolod and I don't know of a decent beach within a hundred k's. Sipalay to the south (it's pretty good) and Sagay to the north that I haven't checked out yet. Mostly in between is dismal - if not muddy mangroves - or where mangroves used to be. There are some 'beach' resorts near Bacolod. Varying quality for resort enjoyment - but the beaches are very very ordinary. You see a lot of locals eating and giggling.

Guimaras isn't far at all. Easy and cheap ferry/boat trip in a couple hours via Iloilo. Nice beaches there....snorkeling was good a few years ago. No idea of current status but I can find out. Relatives go there sometimes and one has substantial interests there and is going back and forth regularly. Most expats live in Bacolod for the good infrastructure, shopping, roads, and food. I said good not great - although the food often is great....Airport is a treat too compared to nearly all domestics...

I tell any of the foreigners here, God forbid, but if ANYTHING SERIOUS happens to you here in the Dumaguete area, GO TO CEBU CITY ASAP!

The only thing I'd use hospitals here would be for triage and getting stabilized enough for the trip over to Cebu.

    hospitals

Wow is this really true about the hospitals there? I thought medical treatment was supposed to be quite good in the PI.

To an extent I guess. I mean I am about as well as I'm going to get. I'm not symptomatic and don't have any other real problems. Just weak kidneys.

I'll talk to the medical director at Holy Child when he gets back and see if he's more interested in proper dialysis than the other doctor..

I talked to nephrologist Dr Coo at Holy Child who is also the hospital administrator. He is much more professional than my Dr Amante, and is going to see just what is going on with this high blood pressure during dialysis problem..

Hopefully it can be straightened out for all patients going there, and I won't have to commute to Bacolod 2x a week.
