The new gym in the old National Bookstore bldg on Silliman had to push their opening out to the first week of May. Delay in getting all their required paperwork.

    Makes you Wonder!

 I have always wondered why, people do this you know? They Kit out a Place, invited you to inspect, Advertise a Grand Opening and YET! they have not got the Paperwork to Operate. I built a perimeter wall once with out a permit, They made me knock it down until I had the permit. I just wonder also, what will they do if the paperwork is not forthcoming. Is it me or do some people always put the Cart before the Horse. I did once and Paid Dearly for it. I hope all goes well for them, it sounds as if it is needed place.

Well JP, we all get caught when operating in a field without having the experience in it, no matter if building walls without permit or planning a business in Dumaguete.

When Rechel tried to register our things a few years ago, we had problems as that business-description was not existing at that time in the PI, so they could not assign a category for it. "next week" turned out into 3 month.

Specially when it comes to Portal West Building you need to do a lot of homework and better have experience in dealing with local officials AND Silliman University.

Not saying anything bad, but there is/was not really any business there which survived very long. I was always wondering why even National Bookstore moved out from there. Why does someone move away if your location is in the middle of Dumaguetes University area, with that many students as your potential clients for any kind of school supply.

AH! Now THAT does, make you Wonder.

I have to Admit that whilst we, in the main, can cope with the Shop Moving to Robinson's, sort of One Stop Shopping :( (puts my Girls in the Mall to Often:eek:) They Must miss, the clientele from the Universities? RENTS & RATES maybe? More Expensive in Town?

Still, pity they have had to put back the Opening, Rents still payable
Hope they do better than the others then! I am not a GYM person but I know a lot here are and just waiting to give it a Try.

Maybe the "trainers" need more time to get in shape! :D

Dropped in there yesterday morning for a look around. Was greeted by Christian and he was pleasant and welcoming. Spoke to him just briefly because he was hosting a luncheon. He told me to feel free to have a look around so i did

All brand new and very clean of course. Still in the process of getting sorted it looks.

It's very light on cardio equipment. 2 recumbent bikes, 1 elliptical type machine and 3 treadmills. Also had 3 of the upright type of exercise bikes that are not electronic. I was sorry to see only one elliptical as those are usually in high demand.

All the rest are free weights and weight machines for circuit training.

Locker room isn't labeled yet but i'm assuming the one in blue tiles is for the boys while the one in pink is for the girls. Just curious so turned on the water and the pressure is LOW! There's a bunch of smaller lockers in each locker room as well as 3 enclosed showers and one toilet in each the mans and womans locker room. There were no sitting benches in the locker rooms to sit down and get dressed at.

No sauna, jacuzzi, steam room or pool. No room for aerobics or group exercise as either. Guests are given a I'm told but there's no soap dispensers in the locker room. Also didn't see any hand sanitizer around.

It'll be a welcome addition to dumaguete of course. Anything new is welcomed in my opinion! :-)

I was told by a staff person membership is 1000 pesos a month PLUS 750 pesos to sign up. If given the opportunity to signup without the 750 (junk fee) I would probably give it a try for a month. My prediction is that the cardio machines will end up being full quite often once the membership increases.

Hope that helps to paint a picture for some here...

    Mark :-)

At Fit for Life gym, the cardio equipment in the morning (7-9) was usually tied up with females working off their cellulite. I hope the majority of them don't transfer over to the new gym like most of the guys are.
Btw, they will issue work out towels but charge for bath towels if you shower there.

Someone commented on the trainers there: They are all body builders and speak English.

Sounds like a rip off to me. As an example, I had a membership in Davao at a place called Metro Fitness. 10 treadmills, 20 bikes of various mfg. 25 spinning bikes. Complete circuit equipment consisting of both Cybex and another line I can't remember (over 30 pcs at least). free weights, boxing ring, aerobic classes, running track, classes for kids, sauna and steam, lockers and towels and all for 11,000 annually (some classes had extra fees attached - karate, boxing, jujitsu) . They offered great value and they had great business. They also owned a Bo's Coffee downstairs and had spillover in there after workouts. No reason a similar philosophy would not work here even though smaller in size Dum is denser for its area and has more people for this gym demographic . Fit for Life is a dump and look how busy they are. This would be a great town for a more sophisticated gym. Not trying to be arrogant about this just pointing out just how far this place has to go.

The gym I belonged to in Pampanga last year had aerobics and yoga, 4 classes daily. tons of cardio equip as well as weights on 2 floors. Had a steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and swimming pool. Towels always provided and showers complete with shower gel and shampoo in dispensers in each shower stall. Had bottled water free of charge on both floors. I paid 12,000 a year.

It's called "the Enclave". For those wanting to see pics: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Enclave-Fitness-Center/112285112144143?sk=photos

I have no affiliation at all with Enclave other than I had a membership there.

Sadly, other gyms available in davao or in pampanga don't really matter to us here in dumaguete. Just makes us hopeful that someday......

Not a rip off if you don't join. Here in Dgte, Cellutrim, a real small room with equipment that was brought over from the US had monthly dues of p700 + sign up, Fit for Life is p800 + sign up, so p1000 is high but the compared to the other two gyms, you get what you pay for.
There is a small gym by the post office on the 2nd fl but very small with only free weights, I don't consider the place behind Hypermart a gym. I haven't checked out the gym around the corner from the PNP station because I heard there is no air con.
Davao Metro Gym sounds great, wish they would expand to Robinson's here, but I doubt the demographics here would be attractive for an investment like that. The owners of the new gym here invested a lot in restructuring the rooms, aircons, etc. I heard they will offer students a nice discount. Still, I believe their return on investment will at least 36 months, IMHO.
