⌛ Gas Prices

The US is also a fairly large country. Long commutes to work are common. At one point I was involved in building 2 large schools and a football stadium that would hold 50k people. My weekly commute for work was 900 miles a week on average. Many things wouldn't work here without cheap fuel. I think our luxury of almost everything being in stock, being able to order something and get it within 3 days, or being able to drive to someplace where an item is in stock within an hour, would go away without cheap fuel.

The Mars Bar!

Many years ago in the UK we used to measure the inflation by the cost of a MARS BAR. a glucose, Chocolate Bar (Candie) Much like gas, a fairly well needed commodity. In 1965 at a wage of £3.17.6 (OLD MONEY, BEFORE DECIMILASATION) You could buy at 6 pence, 62 bars, Now at the reported wage of £300 per week, we can buy 500 based on the cost of 60 pence. Inflation is relevant. Gas in 1965 was 25p in real terms per gallon. at £3.17.6 (£3.75) we could buy 15 gallons, Now at £300 wages and the cost of £6 per gallon, we can buy 50 gallons. Makes you think a little. Is inflation so drastic. Maybe a little maths can be applied her.

last night, my hundred peso cant even get 2 liters of unleaded gas.. it's 57.xx here in cebu.. it really sucks... They are the only ones getting rich.. :-/

 

:( I agree with you here, I can't understand why the Gas here, is so expensive, with exchange rate as it is, that is getting near to a £1 a Gallon and over a $1 The wages here just do not run to this sort of Cost. Distribution of goods will push up other costs too. I know things will not change and it is such a pity, that the average family with a Car/Tric/Bike can't get out too often for a days leisure. I Agree it Sucks. There will be a day, when Theft of gas will appear here, as it has in other Countries, well that,s if it not happening already. Great Shame in this day and Age. Only the Rich are moving Forward.

We seem to be a World going backwards. It is 2011, this sort of thing should never be happening, I hope Ron, that, all your vehicles are well secure. Maybe Dog sales will go up now. All Joking apart though, What is happening to our World to-day? We have always had the petty thief, on our door step But it can only get worse I feel.

Cost of Cocoa 1/1/00 was around $1,000 per metric ton, cost 1/1/10 was a little over $3,500 per metric ton, 1/1/11 price was just under $3,500. I lost my sweet tooth.

 

How much have building materials gone up by ? I'm planning to visit Dumaguete
next January to re-start building my wife's house ! hopefully, if my attorney pulls a few strings to get the title.

 

When I built my/wife's house the peso was P50 to the U.S dollar. Then the building materials went up about 10% and the dollar went down before I finished, that was 3 years ago and it took me about a year. I would guess it would be the same, but I have been in the Phil's for a long time and we did all the paperwork including the title ourselves and with a good knowable friend. No attorney. But I have to explain, when we bought the lot, it was from a bank and it was foreclosed 30 years before. That is is safe way to go. I hope this helps the forum readers.
