    Anti-Virus?

 KDF, Surely the Word Anti-Virus should be the main Job of all these Programmes. Can I take it then, that my McAfee is NOT! sorting any Virus out before it Hits my HD?

Some anti-virus program cannot detect some virus specially the updated virus or more recent virus and also some anti-virus program will eat the file in your computer, so choose wisely what anti-virus you will use, read more anti virus reviews before buying one. In my case, my personal choice is a paid AVG , I believe its a smart choice using AVG, it has a good customer service and easy management as well as it wont eat some internal programs or file in my computer for me its a good choice. And my tune up utilities personal choice is also from AVG called AVG tune up 2011. I also use additional program called malwarebytes, I use the paid malwarebytes for a better protection of my computer, it detects malwares that cant be detected by anti-virus. All these because I love my computer so much.

    McAfee.

So Newbie, How does this fair against McAfee, who will report the same thing. Mine is a paid up Pro Version, I have no problem at this time but after reading the last few posts, it does make you wonder! My Wife has AVG on the PC there and I see not a lot of difference.

At any given moment day one threat-ware can get through ANY AV program free or paid. Only after initial detection can the definitions be created that help to recognize the new threat and stop it or remove it. Most companies release daily updates to keep up and some will do it more often if a really bad one is on the loose.

I have seen all the major AV and most minor AV programs fail at least once. Sometimes that is because it failed to detect or properly clean the threat. Or, Sometimes because it gets a false positive on other files that are not threats and removes them. The second can be pretty bad when it is a windows component that gets shredded. All of the major players mentioned previously in this thread have fallen down for some users.

I was on my last job for over 20 years as a Networking Engineer/Computer tech and I have seen lots of fun days because of viruses combined with ID10T users that ignore the messages from the AV programs to apply updates or because the subscription has expired... not to mention not checking the backups or running one at all.

No matter which AV you use make sure you know how to verify it is current and apply updates. Oh and if you don't want to loose those files or pictures on your computer Back them up!

As I said, its my personal choice as I share my thoughts, no harm to any AV out there, its your choice. But you cant deny the fact that some AV out there really eats some of your programs/file.

    Newbie,

Your exactly correct on your comments on Facebook. Of course they are a clean site, and will be kept clean, which is why they are the largest social network site. If just a tad bit of common sense is actually used, anyone can realize it is in the best interest of facebook to be clean and kept clean and that is why it is making so much money. K, just use cnet to download software that you want that is free such as avast for anitvirus and maybe ccleaner for other maintenance issues. If you stick to using cnet, you'll be safe with your downloads of these type of programs. Just use common sense and you'll be fine and don't get sucked into unfounded foolishness. When you get questionable information, use the internet to search out the truth by using cnet and other reputable sites, not a small forum. This site is great for basic information on the Philippines, but use other sites for software issues, no disrespect to others implied, but when you break a bone you go to a doctor, not a taxi driver, and when you have software issues, go to a good site that specializes in that.

I agree to that, CNET is the best thing to see reviews and to download anything not to mention, its one of the safest site. Aside from ccleaner, try also AVG Tune up 2011 and Tune Up utilities 2011 .They're also good cleaner and fix errors in anyways ccleaner cant detect in some cases.

i'm using mse (free) with malwarebytes(paid) and zonealarm (free) firewall. No virus and malwares had beaten them so far. To add protection still, I used sandboxie for my browser and constant update of the virus definition.
