Thanks for the update. It does seem as though it was only in your small area, as Charlyn and Bobby emailed me and said they have had no problems except the usual "brownouts". I hope and pray that Noreco comes through for you!

Yea I understand, its not like its a lot of stuff and of course I am paying the bill so i felt like I could authorize the stuff left plugged in. I just hate having to always search around to find the cord to plug back in which I would of course complain about...I do feel chastened at this point and will now shut up...:D

    The nightmrare continues...
You don't want to have this happen to you. Noreco Engineer and inspector came and had a look at all my damaged appliances. They checked the receipts we had and updated their list. So I asked how long they thought this process will take for reimbursement or repair. Their answer, 2 or 3 months. So I said you expect me to go without refrigerator, washing machine, range, computer, tv's, fans, for 2-3 months? He explained the process is they will have someone come and pick up all the appliances and send them out to the appropriate repair shops and see if they can be fixed. If not, the report will go back to the gm and they will determine reimbursement. I said I have a better idea, send the service repair techs out to my place and they can quickly determine if any appliance can be repaired. I said meanwhile, I will go and buy a refrigerator today and if you can fix my old one, you can sell it. They asked if I can wait until Monday, they have scheduled a meeting to review and assess the situation. This gave me a real warm feeling, NOT! I called the gm's secretary and asked her to let me know after the meeting what is happening. The Bacong mayor also had damage (his daughter is the Noreco 2 Board Director for the Bacong area). Depending on the feedback I get Monday, I will determine my path forward. Will you all please make sure you pay your Noreco bills on time so they will have funds to reimburse me.. joke
Btw, they saw my meter is not running, I told them I will run all my aircons 24/7. They said if the meter is not working, they will use last month's bill for the current month billing.

Addendum... Lessons Learned, for about 9,000 pesos, I could have bought 10 AVR's, if I had known....

    Assessments!

 I guess Pat, that their Customer services, will have to done some real Work on this One, Seems that a lot of Noreco employees are affected on this issue, as well as you and the Mayor plus everyone else. Azon said she spoke to you this morning, She said she will keep her ears open, As Noreco is a Coop and Employees are Members with Voting rights, the GM will have to pull his finger out here.
I guess this is where we should take a little more interest in Insurance, Having said that, would this sort of thing be covered? Anyway pat, hope things progress swiftly for you.

I started unplugging everything not in use several months ago. Monthly bills dropped maybe 5 to 10 percent. Never thought about the possibility of surges. Only have an AVR for my computer.

Best of luck with your situation!

Please forgive my ignorance but why is there the need to unplug something. Isn't just not having it turned on the same thing. If it's not on how would a surge hurt it as its not getting power to begin with?. Thanks for the education in advance.

I sure wish that was the case. Almost all of my damage, including tv's, washing machinge, etc occurred on appliances that were off but plugged in. I don't know much about how it works but there must be a hiway to hell to anything on the main panel that is plugged in.

I'd be interested if there is some kind of reinbursement;restitution from NORECO for any damage caused by them (if proved it was their fault). Just this week the voltage in my area plunged all the way down to 179 volts (it hovers around 197 to 204 normally), my 10KW AVR which I have wired to my 24K btu split system couldn't keep up and I had to shut it down. The problem is overload which at peak times the transformer serving our subdivision can't handle. The solution is having your own transformer but it's expensive -- my house electrical load requires a 15kva transformer which costs about P75,000 installed, but that's cheap enough than having a P300,000 loss.

By the way, anybody know why the electrical bill increases on each billing? An "extra" expense is added each month. Mine increased to Php 8.89 to the bill from Php 7.66 of last month's. It's always a surprise when you watch your KWH's and budget the cost only to find out electricity is more expensive this billing period.
