I have read at sometime in an older post that there are not many wild birds around Dumaguete. Is this true ?? :(

I live in front of a large rice field and there are lot's of small birds, they even nest in the rafters of my garage. I also see a lot of large white Egrets commonly in the field. I have observed many types around, unlike when I lived North of Cebu and rarely saw one.

The relatively low number of wild birds is due to the official Filipino culture environmental policy. "If it moves, kill it." There's also a "if it grows, chop it down" policy, but fortunately that isn't as strictly enforced.

This is an interesting question. I walk my dog daily in an area that is a mix of jungle and planted fields and see a few birds but not many, and have wondered the same question. A few small birds fly in to my yard to my dog can go crazy, but not too many and no big ones. Disappointing...

PLENTY of birds of many species in Valencia. The bird one sees at the Boulevard fishing is an Monkey Eating Eagle. There are a pair of them, and we see them up here at times too.

@Dodong: these are funny things that you cant laugh about it... its true that locals do shoot these birds for the purpose of shooting and not eating.. but some do eat these birds.

these are all serious matter to attend to specially for the politicians. it is up to them and the people of dumaguete and negros oriental on how they do it..

    Thanks for the replies.
I do appreciate the fact that in my culture now ( UK ) we try to protect and respect wild birds. Maybe in the past when we (UK) had 90% poverty we would eat all the little sparrows too. ( 4 and 20 Blackbirds baked in a pie )
Sad to think they may be killed just for fun though. I will try to educate differently if I ever get the chance. Environmentally speaking Birds, Fish , Bees, well you know what I mean. Take care all.
