⌛ Dark brown roof + sun = ??

Please tell me I have missed something,

but why do people here paint their roofs dark colours. It seems dark green, dark brown or dark red are very popular, even on newly constructed houses.

I was of the opinion that dark colours absorb the heat, therefore the dark roofed house would be hotter. With the highest electricity prices in Asia. (or the world) surely a silver or white roof means you do not have to run an a/c as much.

 

I bought a black Nisson here years ago, and Gawddang what a mistake that was. It was like a farkin solar oven. Took forever to cool too even with a brand new AC.

White white white or light light light and all the attic gets all the ventilation you can muster.

 

color white reflects the heat...its like a mirror.

 

What can you expect from people admiring Western standards, mostly US and Canada ? They "copy" without any thought..

Talk with local architects and contractors and "wild" stories will go on
about the ..taste of their customers !

 

Depends on the composition of the roof. With certain materials, the color has no bearing.

Depends if you want to open a few windows and let the draft blow through or turn on a fan during the day. Or... Be up on thr roof every couple of months cleaning your light colour that shows every little bit of dirt
