While the price may be right you might not be happy with the product. If you are trying to bore your son and want to keep him close by, the school may be a good thing. If you are serious about his education you may want to consider letting him stay in the states to get the education he deserves. My wife is a two year graduate of FU and I can only cry when she is not able to pass an english proficiency class to get into the state college system.

Of course if he is motivated and a serious student he just may do well. Whatever you decide, good luck and be sure to let us know how it turns out.

    Foundation University??? Think again!

I cannot quote the fees and tuition for FU, but I can strongly advise you to look elsewhere for quality education. I have a friend who is there a on scholarship. First of all, it is a more expensive school/college than others in the area I am told. Also, 20 -25% of my friend's classes are cancelled without ever being made up for various reasons such as meetings and the teacher being away. No substitutes are available. In addition, my friend has had trouble with grades being recorded properly and in a timely manner as well. Plus huge assignments are given days before a course ends just at the very time they need to study for exams. And a large portion of time spend in class is taking quizzes, test, and exams. The teaching/learning processes are archaic using rote memorization and lecture with the over abundance of quizzes, test, and exams, as I mentioned.

FU is a money machine. They charge for using the CR. Internet fees are 500 pesos per semester. 500 x 4,000 students = 2,000,000 I'm sure you can see it is highly profitable for the school. Nursing students in their 3rd and 4th years are required to live in the dormitory. These are ADULT students told where they must live. It is also a money maker for FU.

These are only the things I have been told about. I wonder what else is going on there.

The tuition fee for the first semester is about P16,000.
I am currently enrolled in this University..I was surprised that the teachers don't even tell you what kind of books to buy or just write down the title and the author of the books so we know. what we are looking for...they are not very helpful.

    FU

Teachers are supposed to give those requirements, such as what textbooks to use etc. to their students during the first day of classes. Maybe teachers there just use any books and so they tell their students to just look for any books on the subject. That is not very helpful though.

Sounds like my experience with ACSAT with the wife and her younger sister. Teachers just using random books and its the 2nd week of class and they don't even know what books they need for 2 class's yet. First week one class entirely was canceled because the professor had another class at the same time apparently so was double booked. Other class's randomly canceled because of whatever reason from Prof kindnapped by aliens to emergency teachers meeting to decide what color to paint the Profs lounge likely.

Not to mention my sister n law got a scholarship which they said was a 50% discount. Only when we actually got to pay right before school starts do we find its only 50% on the tuition which is less then 1/2 the total cost of the semester. So from thinking 16k and 50% off we find the tuition portion is 7k and we get half off that only.

I was also suprised at the kind of homework and how quickly the profs just started tossing out assignments. First day of a class and wham.... homework assignment already. Some of the assignments I find fairly retarded as well but I guess yah gotta start small when the realistic education level of a HS grad in the RP is likely around 5th grade in the US at a decent school.

Btw, yesterday I was told by the President of FU the 2 piso charge for the CR use is to pay the tuition of the working students that maintain the CRs..

    - She also said they've accomplished much more than Silliman-and in fewer years of existance.

FU has accomplished more than SU? I'd be curious to see a list of accomplishments from each school. FU has some great students, but it also has many students who can barely read. Some FU grads are unable to write even a simple sentence. That doesn't speak well of the school.
A motivated student can learn there, and there are many opportunities outside of class. But for the majority, it's more of an expensive social club than it is a real school.
