    Hi everybody,
My name is Donal and this is my first time to a forum. I don't know if I am doing this correctly by starting a new thread. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome also from me. Tell us a bit about yourself; from the North or South ?? It's of no consequence, just general interest. Hope you can make a trip here and see why the rest of us chose to make it our home.

I live in Ireland and am retired at 48 years old. It has been a wish of mine to retire where I could afford to live, that place is not Ireland, and enjoy a more peaceful and dry climate. I think Dumaguete may be that place, although I have not lived outside of Europe. I know very little about how to get a visa, health care, where to live etc. I am able to build a house completely, incl electrics, plumbing, tiling, carpentry etc. and have in the past made my own solar, wind and water power supplies. I like to help where I can be of help, it's the way I think things should be. Donal

Donal, welcome to the Forum. We need more Irish here so hope you move. Are you married or planning to marry a filipina? There are a few different kinds of visas to retire here, we have a member named Shadow is our resident expert. You may know that a foreigner cannot own land here. However, lots of beautiful young ladies here.....

Thanks for your replies. I am single but was living with a girl for many years and broke up about a year ago. Thanks be  The main reason I think about moving is that I only just get by here with my pension and with the new social tax Ireland introduced they have made it harder. Beautiful women is a major plus in any country but its more important to live a little bit more comfortably first. Ireland is gone down hill. Many of us are scattering to the four winds again, New Zealand being the first choice for many. This choice is not one for me. Dumaguete seems ideal and I have already began to learn tagalog. Just have to get more info on how to make this move. Thanks again.

    Hi Donal.
Great for you to have retired already at 48 only. I also am 48 but cannot quite retire yet :(. ( And too much baggage anyway )
This is a great information source site about Duma. With lots of good advise and helpful members.
I wish you well and best luck. For sure there is no place quite like the Philippines  Take care.

    thanks

I worked long and hard to have the option of retiring on a fairly basic wage. When I chose to do this back in 1984 the retirement wage wasn't so basic but over the years Ireland became so expensive that although retiring at 48 may sound great, enjoying it at Ireland's present cost of living is impossible. I have heard for years that the Philippines is the place to be and I hope though the help of the Members of this forum, (Thanks ), to be in Dumaguete by February 2012. Then I would hope to return this help through my vast building and Electrical experience. I have never used a forum before now and am not sure how I am to post, ask help, or reply. Hopefully it will not be to long before I understand how to navigate these pages.

    Thanks,

    Donal

Donal you seem to be posting fine already. The wiring skills you have may well be needed but dont expect Euro or US standards.
Take care.:D:smile: ( Not taken in Duma but you will get the idea )
