A friend renewed his UK passport by courier in HK just a couple months ago. His only problem was with his HK bank, getting them to issue the payment in the manner the Embassy required. He doesn't have internet so he used my computer so I am pretty familiar with what he went through. I will see him Mon. and ask if there were any other problems.
They were prompt and courteous in responding to email inquires. Very different from my dealings with the US embassy or consulate.

    International Visa?

 Thank You Kenny, Great News, Could you ask your friend or maybe you know? Do they accept Visa Payments via Paypal or Such like? Here in Spain Both the British Embassy and Consulate accept this payment type. If this is the case in HK, then I see no reason to worry. Again, Thank You for this important Information.

My friend is a bit of a Luddite. He refuses to have any plastic cards and communicates with his bank by letters written in long hand and sent through the post. You can see where he often has problems communicating with his Hong Kong Bank. He had written his bank instructing them to send a demand draft to the passport office, it never arrived. I guess the bank people are young and don't have any experience with other than digital communication.
The passport office was very helpful in straightening out the problem and he had no problems at that end.
