    From the US Department of State website;

    CAN A NOTARY PUBLIC FROM THE UNITED STATES PERFORM THAT FUNCTION ABROAD? No. The commission of a notary public is limited to the jurisdiction within the particular state in the U.S. for which the commission was issued. For additional information about notaries in the United States contact the National Notary Association, a Non-Profit Educational Organization, 8236 Remmet Avenue, P.O. Box 7184, Canoga Park, CA 91304-7184, tel: 818-713-4000.

    P.S. Rhoody, I did not post this with the intention of starting a new debate, I posted it to let people know that a US Notary can NOT legally notarize documents here, or anywhere outside of the state for which they were commissioned.

    The exception is consular officers, officers of the military, etc.

    Lock the thread if you wish.

    your clarification is very appreciated.

    the other thread was disapproved after it was clarified that it is NOT a free service. The posting out lines clearly explain that this is not allowed.

    Additionally it would be pretty unfair to our support which pay a more or less fee to have their services listed in our yellow pages and other forms of advertising.

    without them Dumagueteinfo.com would simply not exist, therefore their protection is in each visitors/members interest.

    We are well aware that this policy might upset some people.
    We have business owner on the forum-part of dumagueteinfo who never ever mention their business but giving valuable information in hundreds of posts. That's a simple way to gain reputation and trust. If one does not want to put any effort into it, there is always the option a weekly small black square on page 17 of a local newspaper :wink:.

    Well, it didn't upset me that it was an unpaid advert (that's your department, and you know my views on that) but it did concern me that it was an advert for a service that was not legal. Whether it was intentional or not I don't know, but I am not a notary and I know the law concerning it. Anyone applying to become a notary has to sign a sworn statement that he/she has read, understands, and will uphold the laws concerning notary publics. This person was either ignorant of this, which means they probably are NOT a licensed notary, or they were trying to pull a fast one on people that did not know better.

    Either way, it is illegal.
