⌛ Scooter hire price check

Hi guys,
Originally was happy to get around via jeepney or pedicab until the skin tax started to kill me, worked out I could get a scooter for around 200peso a day with 2 helmets.

At present my current hire place is trying to creep up prices.

So, does anyone have any suggestions for long term (month by month for 6 months) bike rental?
It needs to be around 100cc as my travel insurance wont cover more.
2 decent full face helmets.
Im paying around 2250 every 2 weeks.

I feel someone needs to tell these locals that they are not as clever as they seem and they price themselves out of business. No harm in trying I guess but its not a one way range, where it comes to matters of my money, I fight back.

actually it was 2750 every 2 weeks but the price has just been bought down to originally negotiated price of 5k per month. Seems they thought better. I think it pays to keep an eye out for a second hand or even brand new bike, surely they cant be much more then this, pay it off over 12 months or something.

 

With that price, I think it is better to get one on installment as you get to pay only one thousand a month by installment then have it assumed when you're done using it. The down payment is also very low, like one thousand or something like that.

 

great any idea where to start looking or just rock up to a bike shop and ask? Saw one right next to mygym.

 

Try Rusi Motorcycles. They have recently moved to new premises in Sta. Rosa Street. Bought my 150cc from them brand new for 38000.

As you are looking for something around the 100cc mark, they have a huge selection. You can probably get one brand new for about 25000-27000. They take care of the registration, you get one year free insurance, and lifetime servicing. Your 5000 a month that you are paying now would clear it in 6 months, and you would still own the bike or scooter.

For helmets, there are plenty of places selling them, with varying degrees of quality, so you pay your money and take your chance. If quality and safety is vital (and it should be) try Uwe of Dumaguete cars. A small selection of the stock he carries is on display at the rear of the deli at Casablanca on the Boulevard.

Installment is totally nuts, when you do the math, you pay up yo 4 times as much from the original. A 35K machine cost you 120K when finished paying it off. well, not with 1k, that will never end, your bike breaks earlier ...

No offense meant, but that is how businessmen get the locals... 1k is cheap... that you never will finish the down-payment is a "tomorrow" thought... that is not important now.

why do you think that all are in the sachet-madness... 5 Peso for a 2 gram Nescafe-sachet is "cheaper", than 72 peso for a 100 gram-pack.

 

I think he meant that in 6-12 months when I leave the country, I can just hand it back and what I have paid is very little. In that sense its a better deal.

Then again buying one outright for under 30k is also a no brainer, will contact Dumaguete cars and ask.

you get used ones at RUSI Garden from 8k onward. for around 15 a pretty descent one which you sell again for 10-12k after a year

I was in Rusi Gardens a couple of days ago, they have a quite a large selection.

Now, trying to get a price on each bike was an exercise in itself. They had to go to "the files" and a calculator to work out the price. I explained the concept of price tags (there were none on the bikes). One hour later, with five bikes priced (they all looked the same to me) between 15K and 30K I decided to go back another day when I had cash in my pocket, as I think their turnover is quite high.

Nice helpful people, and they do have cheaper bikes out the back which would be ok if you buy wisely. At the end of the day, if you buy one for 8K or 10K it is basically a throwaway anyway.

Most are repos (repossessions) so check the registration renewal. You will be responsible to get it caught up to date, so look for one that is still current of you can and remember to add the cost of any registration catch up to your budget.
