We were very sad to hear of the latest death in the city of Dumaguete . My wife was very bothered by the news as we are planning on moving there soon . This is her country and she now understands that we can and possibly will indeed be targets . I really didnt know what to tell her other than we will just have to be very very careful and certainly own some guns and definitely know how to use them . Our thoughts and prayers go out to the wife and family of the gentleman who was murdered .

When you get here practice normal caution and don't worry. Dumaguete ain't exactly Ft. Apache.

    Absolutely

We have talked extensively about things when we move there . Caution is first and foremost . We arent flamboyant people . Stay at home and raise our children . Thats our life . I dont know the details about this mans death but it sounds like he was ambushed in his own home . I hate to be a prisoner in my own home but I guess this is what the world has come to , not just Dumaguete . When we build our new home I suppose it will have to be built like Ft. Knox .

    Dumaguete!

 Carl, rest assured, Dumaguete is as safe as ever, The last 2 deaths are bad I admit, S...t happens, you are right in your thoughts about safety. To be a target is one thing, low profile for me, to be a Victim is another. To me! owning a gun, makes you a target, A victim is the RESULT!
Just look at the news Coverage of the UK now, How can anyone compare the like. Be lucky, Be safe, be careful, we will have that beer soon enough!

Don't worry, 'WOW' Philippines doesn't mean 'Wounded Or Worse', especially in Dumaguete, the City of Gentle People.

Hi Carl, Fort Knox? I have been here now 6 years in Valencia and still havent put up a gate on my entrance.. maybe 2 years ago I put up a short cinder block wall I can step over in most places. Had too to keep the goats and cows from eating our roses and other flowers.Still have the hog wire gate. I will put up a real gate soon coz we had bought a mini schnauzer and dont want him to wonder off. Some people living in high access roads do seem to have the most troubles. Some tend to think high walls protect them but thats simply not true, maybe even gives more interest to whats inside, and once over the wall no one can see a robber. Seen some postings to have dogs for protection, my brother in law house was broken into a few weeks back. He has a rot, and 2 other dogs. The intruder went fisrt over the wall and glass shards, then threw the frontroom window, then went to the back of the house into the master bathrooms window to access his room. Dogs still no sound. Maybe its coz they been told shut up while in the house and anybody once inside is ok to a dog.Yeah he lives right on a main road, heavy traffic. Anyway, Low profile. Not flashy, have the biggest, boastful, maybe its helped me.

Or perhaps the robber was known to all the dogs? Was the Rottweiler killed/drugged during the burglary, never known or even heard of even a pet Rottweiler ever missing an opportunity to 'take down' an intruder, especially one trying to leave a property.

Thanks for your insightful post. I learn something new everyday here, .... note to myself, please breed 'new age' Rottweilers, that actually guard the property they live in.

My pup stays outside all the time now, but the first couple weeks we let him inside in a cage for the nights because didnt want a big dog coming into the yard and hurting the puppy. Nope, the rott wasnt doped or nothing. In the daytime the dog is a hell of a watch dog acts like would chew you up. Maybe a heavy sleeper though, hahah
Didnt mention the robber went the next door neighbor house to get into it too, 3 houses in same compound, BUT the neighbor guy woke up while the robber was trying to get in. You know, when the robber heard the Guns big bang, yeah he fled.
