Gosh, we have a lot of guys here, who would be heroes. We are not in the 1800's or the Wild West of the US.

Sorry Jack, I am going to have to disagree with you for once.

The robberrs don't bring a gun to a home BECAUSE the homeowner has a gun, they bring a gun because they HAVE a gun! They bring a gun to protect themselves and to threaten the occupants, or worse than threaten!

But, NO robber goes to a house where they know the owner has a gun, if they have scoped the place out beforehand. They go for the easy targets = no guns and no dogs.

From a robber's perspective, dogs can be quite easy to deal with, but a scared and angry man with a gun is a different situation entirely!

You yourself in a different thread said that 'an Englishman's home is his castle'. That is how most people in most countries feel. My home is MY castle!
I think most people would want the ABILITY to protect their family, posessions and home from invaders. I certainly would.

I think that if it was known locally that every single long nose had a gun at home because they are fed up of being seen as the rich, easy targets, I am sure you would see a reduction in the number of long nose houses being targetted. At least whilst the man is at home.

I'm English like yourself, and not used to a gun culture at all, but if you are seen as easy pickings, you WILL be picked on!

Jack, sorry to disagree with you on this one, but I really can't see logic in any of your statements above, none.

1st one, they know you have a gun so they bring a gun? Do you think robbers want a firefight or to take a chance at getting killed themselves?

2nd one why look for trouble? Doesn't come close to making sense, again, no logic in your statement.

3rd one, live by the gun, die by the gun. Let' see, if an *sshole breaks into my house and has a gun and all I have is a flashlight I stand a better chance at surviving than if I come out armed and firing?

Me, I will do anything in my power to protect my family. I would not kill someone for stealing my television but I would kill if my family was in danger, to be sure.

Maybe it is where I live. Both my neighbor and I have had close encounters with intruders, I take that as a reminder that I am a target. My guess is most robbers are druggies and might do anything to get funds to get their junk.

I respect your position and opinion but not your reasoning, but again, we can always agree to disagree, no problem with that.

:( On Guns, my opinion will never change. Never needed one before. Each to their own, Keeping a Low profile and acting with some discretion has always worked for me. Then, as has been said, only my Opinion.

For those of you who believe in firearms for personal protection, but still want to comply with Philippine law (foreigners can't own firearms), please consider this option.

Here are a few basic rules..

1. Keep a gun. Any gun is better than no gun.

2. Practice. This reduces stress when firing at a live moving target.

3. Keep shooting. This is done until the target is neutralized or runs away.

4. Choose a round that will enter the target's vitals. Large caliber hollow points work best to reach the spine and major blood vessels.

5. Several Targets. A 3 inch magnum 12 gauge shotgun with #1 shot.

Of course there is another rule...4 hits with a .22 is better than no hits with a .45

Practice Practice Practice.

Inside or outside; a dog should give an alarm. Always had a Belgian shephard dog, they are alert no matter inside the house or outside in the garden and will be either quiet and get the intruder without any notification or starts barking first and bite secondly.
