NY is unique and I was always happy to be back and even happier to leave. You would have to tie me up to get me on a plane going back there now.

I lived most of the last 30 years in the Philippines, did I mention I'm old. Dumaguete has a nice balance of urban convenience while maintaining a small town atmosphere. No place is 100% safe but I feel very secure here. A number of years ago a Filipino friend asked if I was afraid to live here. I told him,"I'm from Brooklyn. Almost any place is better."

This is really something that needs to be given priority by our local leaders. There had been a number of similar killings already and most of them have almost the same pattern. The killer who did it wasn't wearing any hood or mask--it only means that he is not from here. Dumaguete is such a small city and people knows everybody. These killers come from other places, most likely and those who hire them are obviously Godless people.

True, but as long as it is not ME who is one of those victims, I prefer homicides

A weekly report or update of the investigation is a MUST. So we will know that they are not sleeping on the case. No need for exact details but just a summary of events.

    DG,
Well, this begs the question...where is the city with one murder per year being a big thing you mention?

Im really having some serious second thoughts about moving there . Los Angeles has stats like that , and thrust me 40+ murders in one area in one year in the USA ? It would have been titled a serial killer and would be well on the road to being solved . Whatare the police doing there ? Nothing ? Thanks so much for the info . I think my moving plans just got put on the back burner , at least as far as Dumaguete goes . They better get their sh*t together and find the thugs or serial killers that are behind these crimes and kill them soon . From : a not so happy Dumaguete real estate owner .

:( Shame to hear this Carl, unless anyone is keeping things to themselves, apart from knowing, any, of the Murder victims, I would doubt it has affected or had any involvement with any Ex-Pat Members Lives here. Infact any member here. My wife and her family seem oblivious, to the daily reports in the press. They are well aware of Slow Police Activity. I would never make light of death, Certainly not Murder. As long as we keep our low profile, stay alert to arising issues and don't get involved in Local problems that, are not our concern, I feel here is as safe as anywhere. Until a motive can be forthcoming, Speculation will always follow.

What about Christmas preparation starting in September?
What about Fiesta preparation starting in July?
And what about the many parade preparations the whole year round?

In corrupt societies two professions, among others, that are always targets for assassination are journalists and lawyers. Until recently, within the past 100 years, the colonial powers weren't overly concerned about government or the judicial system in the Philippines as long as they had access to Asia. The American overlay of government is simply a veneer and although some procedural similarities exist, in substance corruption still pervades every aspect of Philippine society. The typical method of assassination is to pay some teenagers from another province to drive up in motorbikes and shoot the victim. There is no one who will recognize them and they will depart immediately. Simple as that.
