Good luck to all those living on the East coast of America. With mass evacuations to places of safety taking place and the shutting down of the New York subway, it looks like they are in for one hell of a breeze. No doubt there are quite a few Forum members here with kith and kin family members along the Eastern seaboard, and I wish them all well during whatever havoc Mother Nature wreaks in the next few days.

I noticed at the Robinson's currency exchange shop, the US$ to Peso dropped from 42.20 to 41.85 overnight - Fri-Sat. It has been holding rather steady most of the week so I assume the drop is due to the unfortunate damage Irene will have on the economy.

It looks as though it has been downgraded. Damage forecasts aren't as bad as earlier in the week.

In Jersey, and Irene will probably get to where i am by Sunday morning (EST) and last till 2PM, though strongest gusts will be around 8PM. No vehicles allowed to enter/leave Jersey City at the moment. All trains suspended.
Here's to hoping that it won't be as bad as the talking heads on the news make it out to be.

Hope you get by safe and without damage, but I'm at the very least it will be a huge hassle. If you still have electricity and are up to it, could you please keep us updated, many of us have relatives and friends in the area. Thanks and good luck.

I'll try to keep you guys updated. All the local channels have been on Hurricane watch all day; live shots of Manhattan show no one on the streets. All the local businesses, at least near where i live, have been forced to close by order of the Sheriff or Fire Dept. This is gonna be one long sunday.

It's 3:30AM EST Sunday. Winds have picked up a little, and it seems I'm not the only one still up in my neighborhood. Some flickering of lights now. (There goes my Hulu watching, lol) Blackouts have been reported and more coming. Some deaths reported, though due mostly to falling trees.
I don't think, or at least hope, there will be much property damage a side from some flooding. Though locally, there was a roof collapse. Don't know if anyone was hurt. Some neighborhoods have been evacuated near me, but due to them being right by the water.

Though to put it in perspective, some Floridians have been quoted in saying "I don't see what the big deal is about this hurricane." lol

Oh, on a related note. Anderson Cooper of CNN made a comment about how rats were scurrying towards higher ground as he was reporting from Batter Park in lower Manhattan. The rats are always a good indication when it comes to sinking ships, the though came to mind, lol.

Angrysmoker, reporting in from Jersey City (And will probably head to bed now, haha)

    Hello again!

Looks like no damage besides one window screen slightly ajar. No flooding on my neighborhood street but Route 440 and I-9 were/are flooded. Holland Tunnel was closed due to flooding for a few this morning, though i heard it's been reopened.
Lower Manhattan has had some minor flooding, but not so much, lol.

I feel a little cheated. Spent $10 to get ready for this storm and I remember experiencing worse while growing up in Dumaguete.
