PORT SAINT LUCIE, Florida – A young Filipina and her elderly husband were found dead in their home, in what police believe to be a murder-suicide.

Police investigators believe that Filipina Carhina Floerchinger, 21, was shot and killed by her 78-year old husband Guenther Floerchinger, before he turned the gun on himself.

Police found evidence that Guenther tried to set their house on fire after killing his wife.

Carhina’s 4-year-old daughter, who was reportedly in the house at the time of murder, escaped unharmed.

The pair reportedly met online while Carhina was still in the Philippines. She later came with her daughter to the US to marry Guenther.

A 78-year-old man shot and killed his 21-year-old Filipino wife, then set their home on fire, before turning the gun on himself.
Geunther Floerchinger, from Port St Lucie, Florida, is believed to have murdered his wife Carhina in an apparent murder-suicide.
Police received two 911 calls to the property on Saturday after 1am.

One from a neighbour saying Mrs Floerchinger asked her to take her four-year-old daughter away earlier that day and one from the husband saying that he had shot his wife and was going to shoot himself.
Officers arrived to find the front door ajar and the man dead inside the home, behind the door.

Officers also found the woman dead in a back bedroom of the home, which had interior smoke damage from a fire thought to be started with gasoline.

Neighbour Steve Tango, a neighbour two doors away, told the Orlando Sentinel his wife Shannon woke him about 1am to say that their neighbour had phoned and asked that she remove the girl from his home.

Mr Floerchinger was not the father of the little girl.
The pair reportedly met online while Cahrina Floerchinger was still living in her native Phillippines.
Mr Tango said his wife took the girl to their house and also phoned police.

Officer Tom Nichols confirmed that 911 received two calls about the incident, one from a neighbour and the other from the suspect himself.

Scene: Geunther Floerchinger shot his wife at their home in Port St Lucie before setting fire to the house and turning the gun on himself
'A white male called 911 and said he had just killed his wife and was going to kill himself,' Officer Nichols said. 'Before he turned the gun on himself, he set the house on fire.'

He told the Orlando Sentinel that the woman had been shot in the head and the man, whose body was burned and appeared to have shot himself in the mouth.
The couple had lived in the home for about a year, according to friends.

Friends said the woman came to the United States with her daughter to marry and to find a better life. The young girl, friends said, was unharmed and is staying with family friends. Very cute girl......

I certainly am not trying to minimize this, but, if he was prone to do this, he would have done it regardless of his wife's age or nationality. And not knowing his reason makes it harder to understand.

Not a lot of 78yr old from out of the blue becoming homicidal, something real bad must have trigger it. With such large discrepancy in age between them one has to wonder the likelihood of a happy & harmonious marriage. Sad, real real sad.

Well, I'm 70 and my wife is 25 and we are "happy and harmonious" without question. At this gentlemans age, it could have been many things totally unrelated to his marriage. Anything from his health to his finances. People react in strange ways to many personal problems.
I had a very good friend that had sudden financial problems in Houston and shot his horse, his 2 dogs and then himself. Luckily, his wife was out of town that day. Had she been home, we are all sure she would have been killed also. All of this over a sudden loss of money. It was such a waste.
You just never know what a person is thinking when they "snap".

To bring a Filipina to Florida USA can be very risky. The old man was dreaming of a nice young girl and her dreams maybe were to go to USA and get legalized. When a young Filipina realize her opportunity to find a young stud in her own age in USA, often I hear that the feelings for the old man is gone..... She is in USA and not Philippines. That is the difference and it can be very risky. When situations like this occur jealousy can set in like a rocket..... and the consequences can be very tragic. I am not saying that the case in Florida happend this way.... but the possibilities are like 50%. Just my opinion.

Tragic loss of life is always sad and regrettable.

My heart goes out to the young child, SHE has to live with this the rest of her life. It is always the children who suffer the most. Children should NEVER be punished for the sins of their elders/parents/ect

Suicide is the ultimate form of selfishness, not caring what mess one leaves behind for your "loved ones" and taking the "easy" way out is cowardice as far as I am concerned ..
