Need advice. What is the best - eg., fastest, strongest signal, and consistent service provided here in Dumaguete proper for : 1......................broadband ? AND 2......................wifi USB stick ? I need to make a choice as to which way to go, broadband, or wi-fi ? Price is not a consideration if the service is good and reliable. Options I believe for either are: Globe, Smart, Sky. Thanks.
What part of Dumaguete? Not all service providers are available in all locations. I had SKY Cable and internet earlier this year and loved it. I think it is the best available if cost is not an option (or if your employer is picking up the tab :D). If you spend enough on their internet, Cable TV is (was?) free.
I use Globe in Bacong, it has been spotty. Tomorrow I am doubling my speed from 1m to 2m for 300p more, anxious to see the results. I used Sky cable for 3 years and it was very reliable, but not offered in my area. I used both Smartbro and Tattoo prepaid stick, could not get Globe signal most everywhere whereas Smarbro was available but very slow in Bacong, but that was two years ago. My suggestion, and hopefully others will weigh in with pros and cons, would be to go with Sky if available for you.
I've got the Sky silver package in Piapi. 3999 peso per month for 6mb internet and Sky tv combined (70 channels). Up to now its been pretty faultless. I had one problem when it dropped out but my neighbours still had it. Called Sky and they were here in 30 minutes. Relaid the cable into Silliman village straight away and had me back on line within 1 hour. It may drop later as more users are added, as like most things here, it will probably be oversold. But as it stands, it's probably as good as it gets in the Philippines. During brownouts, I use a Smartbro usb for as long as my battery lasts (usually about 3 hours) but it is exceptionally slow. All in all, if Sky is available where you live, then it is probably the one to go for.
We are using Bayantel in the office. They are a real professional broadband provider. The few times we have had to call their customer support we actually got in touch with someone who knows networking, not one that start asking how many lights on the modem you got and if you can unplug it bla.bla. and after 5 min say they will send a technician which might show up. They are a bit on the pricy side, and seem to target business customers in this area, mostly call centres with high bandwidth needs, but you get what you pay for, and they deliver up to 156Mbit.
I have Bayantel I pay 9500 pesos a month. ridiculous amount of money but I have netflix and stream video flawlesly it is the best in dumaguete if you can afford it. when the electricity was out after the typhoon I fired up the genny and had internet
