Feel free to read this as well: Tagalog language - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "Its standardized form, officially named Filipino, is the national language and one of two official languages of the Philippines, the other being English." "...in 1959, it was renamed by then Secretary of Education, José Romero, as Pilipino to give it a national rather than ethnic label and connotation. " " In 1971, the language issue was revived once more, and a compromise solution was worked out—a "universalist" approach to the national language, to be called Filipino rather than Pilipino. When a new constitution was drawn up in 1987, it named Filipino as the national language." Now say, "you were right". I won't hold my breath for that.
I see you are making progress I read that you are starting to integrate yourself into the Filipino Culture.... It is now a good time to progress to the next steps... I would suggest you start by eyeballing some of the local walls around town... or maybe some of the local ladies for your next progressive integration step into the culture. If I arm myself with broken Red Horse bottle, and act macho by marching on Mactan island, will you share some of the spoils with me, like any good leader? Even if I am defeated I could call for a universal dis-armament of their police department (everyone could put down their beer bottles, full or empty and broken) and maybe I would be given a few hectors of land or a free beer if I said everyone in the nation supported me that was a man, and needed some free land or beer too. You never know in this foolish world what will happen next.
I've already marked many the walls around Dumaguete. That just comes with drinking so d*mn much Tanduay. The women, well, I've had many claim they were pregnant. I guess to be completely filipino I should stop paying for back yard abortions. They never buy the drugs and just pull a coat hanger out of the closet. (oh wait, that NEVER happens in the Philippines!) You remember Magellan? I'll deal with you the Lapu-Lapu way.
You know we all moan about Filipinos but there are some right foreigner pricks on this island,it really makes me wonder why they ended up here! Maybe they were not accepted in their own country. There are several I could name but will not on here! Get a life or get out you idiots. Everyone likes a moan now and then but some people need to get a life. It seems to me that after a few yrs even foreigners convert to cheating other foreigners here, why cannot people stick together in a group and have a say in what goes on? Sometimes it's like a bunch of school kids on this forum! Get a life people and enjoy .
This thread is useless and no value add and going from bad to crap. Rechel, I hope you kill this POS.
Right. As if quoting from Wikipedia makes it any more correct than pulling a rabbit out of an *sshole. I suggest you take a time to study a semester introducing Philippine languages at some decent Philippine university then get back to me. Filipino is not Tagalog, although it is Tagalog-based. Tagalog has it's own set of grammar and dictionary that is not applicable to Filipino. "Filipino" the way it is understood today is entirely different from anyone who has formally studied Tagalog. Filipino is an evolving language and you will find it's usage different, depending on which part of the Philippines you're at. It's an accessible, common language for many because it's taught in schools, second to their mother tongue. If you don't want to spend that much time to study formally, try this long and interesting thread about the national language on a known Visayan forum. Should there be further debates on the matter considering that the constitution already declared a national language? Yeah, sure. Talking is good but that isn't enough. They need to amend the constitution for that If they have the numbers, I'm sure it could be done. The Philippines has got bigger problems than this parochial war on languages. It's not on anybody's top ten list of things to do, except for a handful of people who got nothing to do better. Or those who wants to get brownie points for the election period. What's the point of languages anyway? Isn't it for expressing yourself, communicating, getting your point across? Do we really need a "national language" for that? Like I wrote earlier, knowing English, Tagalog and Visayan (if anyone wants to be asinine, the spoken form is known formally as "Binisaya") should get you around the Philippines and interact with the locals. This little discourse was interesting but it no longer contributes to the effing topic of this thread. Maayong adlaw sa imoa.
Yeah, well with wikipedia there are those little numbers next to the sentences. Those are called references. People don't just go there and write whatever they like. I would give more credit to wikipedia and their references (many references coming from highly respected linguists and some references even to your own constitution) and consider information from a "good" filipino college as right as pulling a rabbit out of an *sshole.
I see the increase in jobs as a benefit to the community and a win for us all living here. I also see that people find ways to complain about anything.
